La République de Djibouti et la FAO n’ont cessé d’intensifier leur coopération depuis l’ouverture de la représentation de l’Organisation dans le pays en 2008. De nombreux domaines, comme la production agricole, animale et halieutique ont bénéficié de l’aide de la FAO. Au cours de la dernière décennie, le pays a été touché par une série de grandes sécheresses qui ont eu de graves répercussions sur les moyens de subsistance, en particulier dans les communautés rurales.

Cooperation with the Democratic Republic of the Congo dates back to 1978 when FAO opened its country office. Assistance has focused on improving food and nutrition security, including support to the formulation of policies and strategies for agricultural and rural development, natural resource management and resilience building in the face of climate change.

Israel became an FAO member in 1949, and has provided highly valuable expertise to FAO and its member countries. In addition to offering technical assistance to FAO projects on capacity development for pest and pesticide management, Israel’s agency for International Development regularly holds technical training sessions in many areas of agriculture and development. These are circulated to FAO stakeholders in developing countries, several of whom have participated in and benefited from the training.

The partnership between Uzbekistan and FAO has been evolving since the country joined the Organization in 2001, and it was recently strengthened with the opening of a Representation in 2014 and the signing of a Host Country Agreement. Delivered through national as well as regional projects, technical assistance has covered a wide range of areas, including diversification of cropping systems, livestock production and disease control, locust control activities and increased fisheries production.

FAO has been operational in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic since 1975, delivering policy and technical development assistance through approximately 250 projects to date. FAO’s support continues to be instrumental as the country faces key opportunities and challenges in the agriculture sector, including increased commercialization and transparency of markets and growing pressure on land. Lao PDR has committed to improving food security as part of its efforts to graduate from the category of least-developed countries by 2020.

Eritrea and FAO

FAO’s full office in Eritrea became operational in 1995, when the field programme at the time was dedicated to recovery from the devastation caused by the protracted war of independence. The focus was on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the agricultural sector and the resettlement of returning displaced people. Following this reconstruction and rehabilitation period, Eritrea began building its vision of development and set about capacitating and building public sector institutions to implement this vision.
