This document, presents a learning story from the LEGEND Challenge Fund that supported partnership projects by civil society and private sector business to test approaches through which private business can potentially contribute to more secure land rights and better land governance in agricultural investment sites and supply chains.

We believe in an agri-business sector which is responsible and collaborative, yet competitive and market-oriented, in which communities, local agri-entrepreneurs and international investors alike thrive on innovating the future of cocoa and chocolate.

The Corruption Perceptions Index 2019 reveals a staggering number of countries are showing little to no improvement in tackling corruption. Our analysis also suggests that reducing big money in politics and promoting inclusive political decision-making are essential to curb corruption. 180 The CPI scores 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, according to experts and business people.

This paper is one of three thematic case studies resulting from a set of pilot projects undertaken jointly by civil society and private business partners from 2016–2019 in five countries in sub-Saharan Africa. These pilots sought to test how private companies could collaborate with civil society organisations and other stakeholders to implement responsible agribusiness investments that recognise and respect community land rights, and to develop innovative tools and approaches that could be adopted and implemented at greater scale.

Cet ouvrage « La question de l’accès des jeunes à la terre : Élément pour mieux concevoir et suivre les interventions et les politiques de développement rural dans la durée » est l’aboutissement d’une réflexion collective sur l’accès des jeunes à la terre et les dynamiques d’évolution des structures agraires engagée par le Comité techniquement « Foncier et développement ». Ce chantier a été animé entre 2017 et 2019 par une équipe d’AGTER et de Scafr-Terres d’Europe, en coordination avec le secrétariat scientifique du CTFD.

Depuis son accès à l’Indépendance, la république d’Haïti semble profondément marquée par les racines de son histoire, prise dans les contradictions de ses références aux valeurs « humanistes » de la Révolution française et à l’attachement à une société profondément, pour ne pas dire essentiellement rurale, depuis l’origine, du fait des exigences du système colonial. Les discours qui émaillent cette histoire, au rythme des soubresauts politiques innombrables qui la jalonnent, le montrent bien.

This study provides an understanding on whether land reform policies pursued by the government of Zimbabwe post-independence (1980) have an effect on the corruption in the land sector. Agriculture and corruption data from 2000 to 2017 were obtained from World Bank and Ibrahim Index of Governance website respectively. The Bai and Perron multiple structural break tests were employed to establish the break years. Structural breaks in time series assist in understanding factors affecting the dynamics of a series.

Os capítulos ora trazem como área de análise a totalidade do território nacional, ora recortes regionais ou estaduais.

Points à retenir

Secure land and property rights are essential for improving the livelihoods of the poor and ending poverty. Effective and equitable land governance can also contribute to economic development, domestic resource mobilisation and climate change resilience. Promoting fair and transparent land tenure systems should therefore be a priority for national governments.
