The set of problems involving land property in Latin America has been the subject of controversy, legislation and political struggle ever since the occupation of its territory by the European colonizers in the post-Mercantilism era. In recent years, however, the need for food and energy production, the need for environmental preservation and the speculative use of land, has aroused a new wave of debate over land acquisition.

Current West Virginia coal mining regulations emphasize reforestation as a preferred postmining land use on surface mined areas. Some mined sites reclaimed to pasture are being converted to forests. In the spring of 2001, we compared the establishment and growth of five hardwood tree species on a reclaimed West Virginaia surface mine with compacted soils and a heavy grass groundcover.

Gold and diamond mining constitute more than half of all mineral exploitation worldwide and an estimated 6 to 9 million artisanal miners are active in the gold and diamond sector. Africa hosts a third of the world’s natural mineral wealth, among which 65 percent of global diamond deposits. While mineral exploitation contributes to the livelihoods of many, it also generally leaves a negative impact on the environment, which may ultimately be detrimental to livelihoods.

Het integreren van landschapsnarratie met het landschappelijk en ecologisch benaderen van landschapsherstel als uitgangspunt voor het ontwerpen aan voormalige bruinkoolmijnen in de Lausitz. In het Zand- en kleiwinningsplan Gelderland kondigt de provincie de instelling van een Provinciaal Kwaliteitsteam Ontgrondingen aan, dat werkende weg een eigen methodiek zal ontwikkelen. Inmiddels bestaat dit kwaliteitsteam 3 jaar en heeft 16 adviezen uitgebracht. In dit rapport staat een evaluatie van de kwaliteit van de werkwijze en van de adviezen van het Provinciaal Kwaliteitsteam Ontgrondingen centraal. Geconcludeerd wordt dat de werkwijze en adviezen volstaan, maar dat zij verder kunnen worden geprofessionaliseerd.

Em 2004, iniciou-se a produção e expor tação de gás natural em Pande e Temane, na província de Inhambane. Em 2007 arrancou em Moma, na província de Nampula, a expor tação de minérios produzidos a par tir de areias pesadas. Em 2007, o Governo assinou com a brasileira Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) um contrato mineiro para a exploração de grandes quantidades de carvão de Moatize, na província de Tete.
