Evidence gap map on impacts of Socio-Technical Innovation Bundles (STIBs) on women’s empowerment and resilience. CGIAR Initiative on Gender Equality (HER+)

Dezembro, 2022
Global

A combination of factors, including policies, technological advancements in response to climate change
and social needs, and changes in market demand, have triggered considerable agricultural transformations
in recent decades (Timmer, 1988; Viswanathan et al., 2012; Thanh et al., 2021). Yet, technological

From Within and Without: Gender, agency and sustainable management of non-timber forest products in two Indian States

Dezembro, 2022
Global

Non-timber forest products (NTFP) from trees are often collected using unsustainable practices, which contributes to the species’ decline and affects the livelihoods and wellbeing of the most forest-dependent groups, such as women, ethnic minorities and the landless. Here we assess opportunities to improve the sustainability of NTFP collection practices across two landscapes in India, using an agency perspective where male and female NTFP collectors themselves identified and evaluated practices and potential interventions for species of their choice.

Policy incentives for smallholder adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices

Dezembro, 2022
Global

There is a large and growing literature on the potential use of policy instruments for stimulating the adoption of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices amongst smallholders. The objective of this article is to review and understand how the array of potential policy incentives can serve as mechanisms for enhancing adoption and upscaling of potential CSA practices by small-scale farmers in low-income countries. The review follows a matrix approach capturing where specific CSA practices (rows) are supported by typical policy instruments (columns) for enhancing widespread adoption.

Forest and landscape restoration measures could address landscape degradation, increase ecosystem services, and improve livelihoods. However, mapping potential areas for forest and landscape restoration measures and identifying enabling and constraining factors is crucial for effective implementation.

Water-Land-Food Nexus: Water Governance for Fish Production and Rice Farming

Dezembro, 2022
Malaysia

Cambodia has abundant water resources in general, but it has a little water in the dry season. The increased dry season rice farming in many provinces, following the increased rice export policy in Cambodia and the spill-over effects of rice trade in Vietnam has led to high demands for water for dry season rice farming. These have led to water shortage and conflicts over water among farmers in the farming provinces, and between sectors, for instance, fishery and rice farming.

Global

These training slides, form part of the training delivered to the Africa Group of Negotiators Expert Support Group (AGNES) Climate Leadership Programme. The materials explore the impacts of decision making and introduce the key concepts as well as an overview of decision support tools and the basics of data visualisation. The training delves into the importance of user testing and accessing decision support tools and how critical evidence is for police processes, as explained through the example of climate-smart agriculture investment plans.

Introducing an agricultural app to rice farmers: A pilot study in Can Tho, Vietnam

Dezembro, 2022
Global

Plantix is an agricultural app developed by a private company based in Germany which offers a diagnosis and advice for more than 30 crops. It has great potential as a new form of extension service complementing a traditional face-to-face extension service. The CGIAR Plant Health Initiative seeks to introduce the app as part of a package of innovations available for integrated pest and disease management to facilitate behavioral change among farmers. Plantix has been widely used in India but has not yet become very common in Vietnam.
