The objective of the present study was to deepen understanding of outcomes and impacts contributed by the leasehold forestry (LHF) programme, particularly in terms of improving livelihoods, reducing poverty and rehabilitating degraded forests in the hills of Nepal, through improved forest management.

This factsheet presents Kagera TAMP project progress to analyze, document and evaluate Sustainable Land Management (SLM) technologies and related approaches in the transboundary Kagera river basin.

The present report gives the complete description of the preparation of a land use map and also the preparation of a national map of livestock intensity, needed as LUS input. The present method allows the preparation of a multi-country land use map in two weeks with the work of 13 experts, and is comparable to the continuous of 130 working days. Further to that, the LUS has been validated with the support of GIS consultants.

The Bikin Carbon Tiger project aims at preserving the valuable ecosystem of this region as well as ensuring the continuity of indigenous traditions through the creation of new income opportunities that are not in conflict with the objectives of environmental conservation.
