Countries face severe local and global climate risks with grave social, economic, and environmental costs. This publication is a product of the GEF-funded FAO project ‘Decision Support for Mainstreaming and Scaling Out Sustainable Land Management (DS-SLM)’ which has developed a decision support framework (DSF). Integrating climate mitigation and environmental peacebuilding objectives through sustainable land use systems: Theory of change and indicators

Dezembro, 2022
Global

Land is an essential natural resource for climate mitigation and peace. It is commonly connected with sources of GHG emissions and with drivers of (violent) conflict. Therefore, climate mitigation and peacebuilding strategies are co-designing sustainable land-use systems (SLUS) with affected communities to integrate land-based climate mitigation and peacebuilding objectives. SLUS is practiced within agricultural production systems that meet sustainability principles (environmental, social, and economic).

Global

As the range of public, private, and civil-society-led commitments and interventions for sustainable trade continue to grow and diversify, the question of how to better coordinate efforts and resources – effectively delivering on Sustainable Development Goal 17 focusing on ‘Partnerships’ – remains open. Taking the requirement for better harmonisation across the spectrum of existing policy instruments for sustainable trade as the starting point, we borrow the concepts of vertical and horizontal policy integration, and readapt them to the wide range of sustainable trade tools.
