The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Regional Law No. 98-ZO “On maximum and minimum land area dimensions that can be allotted to citizens in ownership”.

This Regional Law establishes minimum and maximum land areas of agricultural land for production of agricultural commodities that can be allotted to citizens out of stock of public and municipal land. Minimum land area for agricultural production shall be 1.0 ha and maximum land area for agricultural production shall be 50.0 ha.

This Regional Law establishes maximum land area of land parcels allotted in ownership to citizens free of charge as follows: (a) for peasant farms – 8 ha; (b) for gardening – 0,10 ha; (c) for horticulture – 0,10 ha; for suburban housing construction – 0,04 ha; (d) for subsistence farming – 0,15 ha; and (e) for individual housing construction – 0,15 ha.

La presente Ley de protección y uso sostenible del litoral, precisa el concepto de dominio público marítimo-terrestre, tanto en lo que se refiere a la zona marítimo-terrestre como a las playas. La ley establece que la zona marítimo-terrestre se fijará hasta donde alcancen las olas en los mayores temporales conocidos a partir de los criterios técnicos que se establezcan, añadiendo mayor certeza, seguridad y uniformidad en los deslindes.

iTaukei Lands (Amendment) Decree 2013 (No. 13 of 2013).

This Decree amends the iTaukei Land Act (formerly the Native Lands Act) by inserting a new section (24), which empowers the Minister to make Regulations prescribing matters that are required or permitted by the principal Act to be prescribed or are necessary or convenient to be prescribed for carrying out or giving effect to the principal Act.
