The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Act No. 6.803 establishing land use planning for industrial establishment.

This Act establishes land use planning for industrial establishment. It consists of 14 articles defining different industrial areas and laying down the requirements to be met in order to perform industrial activity. It also concerns preventive measures to be applied by Federal Power in order protect natural environment and establishes competent authority entitled for carrying out controls on these industries and issuing the authorization for performing their activity.

Implements: Decree-Law No. 1.413 establishing controls to be carried out on industrial pollution. (1975-08-14)

Act No. 6.001 establishing the native people Statute.

This Act establishes native people communities within the forests of Brazil. It consists of 68 articles laying down traditional rights, work conditions, native lands requirements, protected native lands, native people definition, prohibiting land leasing, concession, exploitation, etc. and legal procedures to be applied to the aforementioned people (as well as all provisions relevant to native peoples).

Incentives in the form of grants are available for measures which aim at prevention or reduction of erosion of the soil of arable land. The projects shall be planned and executed in cooperation with the Norwegian Water and Energy Company. Plans shall be designed by the Company or others to be designated by the Company. Materials to be used in the project shall be approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Remaining provisions deal with application for incentives and payment procedures. (11 sections)

Decree relative to the self declaration of the acquirer in acquisitions of certain real property for which no permit is required.

Permits shall be obtained in accordance with a procedural scheme adopted by the Ministry of Agriculture. However acquisition of land for certain (agricultural) purposes is exempted from such requirement. If such is the case the acquirer shall submit a self declaration drawn up in accordance with a scheme adopted by the Ministry of Agriculture. Together with the declaration a statement from the municipal authorities regarding the status ad size of the land shall be submitted.

Permits shall be obtained in accordance with a procedural scheme adopted by the Ministry of Agriculture. Acquisition of land or establishing of a right on land for certain purposes, including for certain agricultural purposes, is exempted from the duty to obtain a permit. (5 sections)
