The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Cette loi porte limitation du morcellement des propriétés agricoles situées à l'intérieur des périmètres d'irrigation et des périmètres de mise en valeur en bour délimités. Dans les périmètres d'irrigation, la superficie minimum d'exploitation est fixée à 5 hectares; à l'extérieur elle doit être suffisante pour dégager un revenu permettant de rémunérer deux travailleurs agricoles. Font exception les morcellements pour la création ou l'extension d'entreprises non agricoles et en cas d'expropriation pour cause d'utilité publique.

The Act relates to the control, administration and disposal of Crown land. The Act is divided into 7 Parts: Preliminary (I); Land acquired or leased by the Crown (II); Crown grants (III); Leases and licences of Crown lands (IV); Special provisions relating to foreshore land and soil under waters of Fiji (V); Special provisions related to licences for laying down tramlines, etc. (VI); General (VII).

Land Conservation and Improvement Act.

The Act makes provisions for the conservation and improvement of the land and water resources. It establishes the Land Conservation Board (sect. 3) to exercise general supervision over land and water resources (sect. 5a) and to make conservation orders (sect. 7), closing orders (sect. 8) and orders to do work (sect. 9). Conservation Committees may be established to advise the Board. (23 sections)

Native Land Trust Act.

The Act is divided into 4 Parts: Preliminary (I); Control of native Land (II); Native Reserves (III); Miscellaneous (IV).The Act establishes a board of trustees called the Native Land Trust Board (sect. 3) in which the control of all native land shall be vested (sect. 4). The Act makes provision for the alienation, transfer and lease of native land. The Board may create a native reserve (sect. 15) where native land may not be alienated (sect. 16). Portions of the reserve may only be excluded from it with consent from the native owners (sect. 17).

Native lands shall be held by native Fijians according to native custom as evidenced by usage and tradition. Such lands may be cultivated, allotted and dealt with by native Fijians amongst themselves according to their native custom (sect. 3). The Act further creates the Native Lands Commission to establish what lands are the rightful and hereditary property of native owners (sect. 4). (23 sections)
