WeRobotics

General

WeRobotics is a social impact organization that brings together local experts, communities and activists to offer practical alternatives to systems dominated by foreign-led and top-down interventions. Their endgame? Create replicable models that can be adapted and adopted by other organizations. Omidyar Network supported the design, launch, and administration of a multi-phased open data and AI innovation challenge to identify a portfolio of solutions that ethically and strategically leverage drones and other robotics technologies to collect and analyze geospatial data to benefit local communities.

Accelerating Adaptation in Asia

General

In Asia, economic growth, rapid urbanisation and infrastructure development are contributing to increasing land degradation. At the same time, the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly devastating. The project has therefore initiated a paradigm shift in hydraulic engineering. To this end, it developed the platform "Building with Nature in Asia" to mobilise public and private stakeholders and enable the scaling up of this approach to climate change adaptation. In this way, climate-resilient landscapes were created that support the long-term resilience of cities and settlements along vulnerable Asian coasts and rivers.

Agricultural Registry for Wine and Vine

General

(Moldova): The wine industry plays a key role in Moldova's economy, and two recent Russian wine embargos have highlighted the leverage Moscow continues to exercise over Moldova's government and economy. Promoting greater efficiency and more diverse exports in Moldova's wine industry lessens the country's dependence on Russia as an export destination and builds Moldovan economic capacity. This activity seeks to establish a fully functional Moldovan wine and vine registry to provide a reliable traceability database for grape growers and wine producers. This system consists of a secure computerized database housing land ownership, farmer, grape variety, field size, and yield data. The database will be available to government, farmer associations, and private sector organizations, so that verifiable origin requirements can meet international export market requirements. Increased access to more lucrative international markets will result in higher prices for grapes and will result in higher incomes for all segments of the industry. This activity represents a collaboration between Moldova's Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, and the National Office of Vine and Wine. This project supports the JRS Goal 2, Strengthen and Balance the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Relationship, and sub-goal 2.2 Promote market oriented economic and governance reforms, including through education, to create economic growth and reduce vulnerability to economic coercion. It also supports CAATSA goal 8 (40 percent). ..

Char Development and Settlement Project (Bridging)

General

The Netherlands has supported the development of newly accreted land and the settlement of these lands since 1994 through the successive phases of the Char Development and Settlement Project (CDSP phases I to IV). The aim of this project is to provide secure land titles to poor and vulnerable households and support agricultural production. The most recent phase of this project (CDSP IV) was funded by IFAD, GoB and a grant from the Netherlands. This phase of the project is the bridging phase between CDSP IV and V. CDSP has since its start in the 1990s aimed to reach the poor and disadvantaged segments of the population in the project areas. Before the start of its activities in a project area the living standards of the vast majority of the population in the project area were below the poverty line, and most households are landless, or small and marginal farmers. CDSP applies specific criteria for selecting beneficiaries of land settlement and land titling, social forestry and agricultural development to ensure it benefits the most disadvantaged and vulnerable households. Gender is an important dimension all Project activities.

Objectives

The overall development objective of CDSP-B is to reduce poverty and hunger for poor people living on newly accreted coastal chars, which would be achieved via improved and more secure livelihoods. A first specific objective of the Project will be to consolidate the achievements of the earlier CDSP phases I to IV. The Project will continue support for CDSP I, II, III, & IV areas with operation and maintenance activities and land settlement. A second specific objective of the Project is the preparation of future investments in char development in the South Eastern delta. For future investments substantial preparatory work is required.

Cambodia Democratic Reforms (CDR) Program

General

(Cambodia): CDR is improving political competitiveness and government accountability by strengthening democratic systems and supporting the ability of citizens to more effectively participate in their country's political processes. CDR will focus on citizen participation at the sub-national and national levels, with an emphasis on women and youth. It will work with local civil society organizations (CSOs) to bolster constructive civic engagement to advance respect for human rights, access to basic services, electoral reform, land rights, social accountability and anti-corruption efforts. CDR will work with local CSOs to support emerging women leaders to develop skills to engage in politics, build relationships with elected officials, and influence decision-making in target provinces. It will train potential female candidates and prepare those chosen by parties for inclusion on candidate lists for the 2018 national elections. CDR will transition much of the activities to local CSOs.
