La Universidad del Bío-Bío es una institución de educación superior chilena, de carácter estatal, ubicada en la Región del Biobío, con sedes en Concepción y Chillán. Es una de las veinticinco universidades del Consejo de Rectores de las Universidades Chilenas, y miembro de la Agrupación de Universidades Regionales de Chile.
Actualmente se encuentra acreditada por la Comisión Nacional de Acreditación (CNA-Chile) por un período de 5 años (de un máximo de 7), desde agosto de 2014 hasta agosto de 2019. Figura en la posición 17 dentro de las universidades chilenas según la clasificación webométrica del CSIC (julio de 2017) y en la posición 19 según el ranking de AméricaEconomía 2016. Dentro de las universidades chilenas está, además, entre las 25 que aparecen en el ranking de Scimago Institution Rankings (SIR) 2017, con la posición 19 a nivel nacional y 665 a nivel mundial.

Methodology for estimating implied energy consumption in the urban growth of diffuse cities
The urbanization trend in Latin American cities is currently one of the highest in the world. It determines that the increase in urban area is greater than the rate of population growth. In turn, cities use 75% of the energy consumed on the planet. For this reason, they are responsible in equal proportion for the production of greenhouse gases. In response, urban planning should incorporate design strategies to reduce said consumption. As an alternative to this trend, the objective of this investigation is to assess the impact of the different models of urban growth for the same city.
