Dr. Meera Velayudhan has a Ph.D in Modern Indian History has been involved in gender studies since its inception in the early 1980s in India. Since gender studies emerged alongside a renewed women’s movement, Meera locates herself in the dynamic space where research met field experiences. The focus of her research has been women’s struggles and forms of organization in varied historical contexts- both pre- independence and contemporary. Her work experience includes international organizations such as UNICEF where she assisted in preparing UNICEF’s Board report on the situation of women and children in South Asia (1981) and also prepared voluntarily an annotated bibliography of studies on women and development. Meera is a Senior Policy Analyst (Gender& Culture) at the Centre For Environment & Social Concerns (CESC),Ahmedabad, Gujarat and is currently, Visiting Gender Expert at School Of Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala. Meera has a range of publications- in books, journals, newspapers and has been Editor, Indian Association for Women’s Studies (IAWS).
