A Argentina é o oitavo maior país do mundo com uma área continental que cobre mais de 2,7 milhões de km2. Possui uma população de 44 milhões de pessoas, das quais 90% vivem em áreas urbanas. A Argentina é considerada uma economia emergente média, mas seu desempenho econômico tem sido instável e tem sido afetada por uma alta inflação. Esta situação econômica e uma política aberta aos investimentos estrangeiros determinaram a governança da terra no país, o que favoreceu aquisições e investimentos em larga escala com consequências significativas para os pequenos(as) produtores(as) e para o meio ambiente.
