Er is behoefte aan een methodiek waarbij op eenvoudige wijze de interactie tussen landbouw-, milieu- en natuurrandvoorwaarden in kaart kan worden gebracht. In het project Milieugebruiksruimte in programma 398-III wordt een eenvoudige methodiek ontwikkeld om inzichtelijk te maken welke teelten/landbouwsystemen duurzaam aanwezig kunnen zijn in een bepaalde regio, rekening houdend met de functies van de betreffende regio (landbouw, natuur, recreatie), alsmede specifieke (geo)hydrologische situatie en de eigenschappen van de grondsoorten.

De implementatie van de Europese Kaderrichtlijn Water (KRW) is in Nederland de verantwoor-delijkheid van VenW. Omdat de KRW gevolgen kan hebben voor de beleidsterreinen van LNV heeft zij Alterra gevraagd op zeer korte termijn de mogelijke consequenties van de KRW voor de sectoren landbouw, natuur, recreatie en visserij inzichtelijk te maken. Een scenariostudie: op basis van expert-kennis zijn een viertal scenario’s uitgewerkt waarbij alle noodzakelijke stappen om de KRW te realiseren zijn doorlopen.

Op de Floriade 2002 in de Haarlemmermeer was Wageningen UR aanwezig met het vlinderpaviljoen. Vlinders zijn belangrijke graadmeters voor de kwaliteit van het milieu. In het paviljoen konden bezoekers in de huid van onderzoekers kruipen. In deze brochure is een verslag van debatten te vinden, die daarop volgden. Floriade debatten kunnen een opmaat zijn voor een levendig debat over de rol en gewenste kwaliteit van groen in de Nederlandse samenleving

Ce recueil d'initiatives rcentes de dveloppement durable dans le domaine de la gestion des terres et de l'agriculture a t labor comme document d'appui au Rapport de la Commission de travail examinant le volet Terres et agriculture pour les chapitres 10, 12 et 14 de l'Action 21. Ce rapport prsente un ensemble de 75 tudes de cas provenant de 45 pays et illustrant les diffrents aspects d'une amlioration de la gestion des terres et de l'agriculture et du dveloppement durable.

World agriculture: towards 2015/2030 is FAO’s latest assessment of the long-term outlook for the world’s food supplies, nutrition and agriculture. It presents the projections and the main messages. The projections cover supply and demand for the major agricultural commodities and sectors, including fisheries and forestry. This analysis forms the basis for a more detailed examination of other factors, such as nutrition and undernourishment, and the implications for international trade.

The renovation process in Vietnam in the past decade has enabled significant economic growth as well as and greater rights and more important economic roles of farming households. However, much of this reform has focussed on men as head of households, meaning men have benefited more from economic reform, both economically and in terms of their power within the household. Inequalities continue in access to and control of key resources such as land, water, credit and rest time, as well as in access to public services.

Argues the need for landowners in South Africa to draw lessons from events in Zimbabwe and to be much more radical, proactive and imaginative in promoting needed changes in land reform, failing which they will have no future, as pressures from the landless intensify. The current status quo is unsustainable and the national effort inadequate. The private sector has a key role to play to break the current logjam. Increasing number of landowners are beginning to see the light and accept political realities. Calls for a land summit to negotiate a comprehensive agrarian transformation.
