Paper reflects on the work of the Ministry of State for Development of Northern Kenya and other Arid Lands between its formation in April 2008 and the elections of March 2013. Begins by summarising the historical, political and institutional contexts within which the Ministry was created, as well as the multiple narratives that have driven policy in Kenya’s drylands over time. Explains some of the policy choices the Ministry made in interpreting its mandate and shaping the policy agenda.

Resumo Observa-se atualmente o revigoramento dos deba­tes sobre o Estatuto da Cidade, questionando sua efetividade, a baixa participação popular e sua uti­lização para legitimação de políticas engendradas por interesses particulares. Nesse contexto, este artigo investiga as Operações Urbanas Consorcia­das (OU) enquanto mecanismo de recuperação de mais-valias fundiárias. The environmental sector in Kenya is one of great importance. However, attention in its protection and conservation from a legal point of view came to prominence a decade ago with the enactment of the Environmental and Management Coordination Act of 1999 and the subsequent formation of the National Environmental Management Authority under section 7 of the act.

Cutting 882 ha in Bosthom village of Prormey commune in Tbeng Meanchey district of Preah Vihear province: 219.77 ha from 2002 Forest Cover, and 662.23 ha from ELC of Lan Feng (Cambodia) International Company Limited; Reclassifying 792.76 ha as state private land for donating to 266 families; and Reserving 89.24 ha for population growth and physical infrastructure development.

Cutting 830 ha of land in Trapaeng Kcheng village of Sdaov commune in Sangkum Thmey district of Preah Vihear province: 12 ha from ELC of TPP, 16 ha from ELC of Ample Focus (Cambodia), and 802 ha from ELC of Distinct Harvest (Cambodia) Co., Ltd; Reclassifying 510.43 ha as state private land for donating to 221 families; and Reserving 319.57 ha for population growth and physical infrastructure development.

While there is a large, though
inconclusive, literature on the impact of land titles in
Africa, little attention has been devoted to the study of
land conflict, despite evidence on increasing incidence of
such conflicts. The authors use data from Uganda to explore
who is affected by land conflicts, whether recent legal
changes have helped to reduce their incidence, and to assess
their impact on productivity. Results indicate that
