The right to adequate housing and the peaceful enjoyment of private property are fundamental human rights. Yet, globally, the accessibility and security of these rights remain unequal and unsustainable.
In 2015, land and property rights were placed at the core of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting their critical role in reducing poverty and empowering women. From 2018 to 2020, Prindex, a joint initiative of the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and Global Land Alliance (GLA), conducted a landmark survey across 140 countries. The results were alarming: nearly 1 billion people believed they were at risk of eviction from their land or property within five years.
This October, as part of the European Commission Data Partnership*, Prindex will present its latest report, based on data collected from 108 countries, representing 4.9 billion citizens—or 87% of the world's adult population. Conducted through the Gallup World Poll, the report sheds light on growing global concerns about tenure insecurity over the past four years, issuing a call for urgent policy action to address this rising trend.
Join us for the report launch, followed by a discussion that will also touch on aspects of the upcoming gender-focused report.
