The 14th International Conference on Community-based Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA14) will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on 18-21 May, 2020.
CBA14 in May 2020 will bring together practitioners, grassroots representatives, local and national government planners, policymakers and donors to share their experiences and drive forward efforts to achieve a climate-resilient future.
The event will provide an open and interactive space for the international CBA community to meet and explore transformative solutions that can be delivered through the agency of communities driving climate action.
CBA14 will take place on 18-21 May in Bangkok, Thailand. Sign up to keep informed about the conference details, and register via our Eventbrite booking platform.
Themes
The conference is designed to enable the international CBA community to drive global ambition for a climate-resilient future by bringing diverse stakeholders together to learn and inform each other about the challenges, realities and solutions.
The conference will have three key themes:
- Climate finance: how can public and private sector finance be accountability and transparently mobilised to scale up climate action, while remaining inclusive?
- Adaptation technology: how can adaptation technology be used to bring about adaptation at national level, and be integrated through policy and finance?
- Responsive policy: how can social movements inform policy that is ambitious enough to meet the Paris Agreement targets and improve climate adaptation for communities?
Grounding policy in local action
CBA conferences are part of an ongoing process designed to keep the CBA community engaged and involved in global conversations throughout the year. More than 250 people attended CBA13 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in April 2019, and key messages from the event were taken forward to September's Climate Action Summit and the 17th Development & Climate Days (D&C Days) at the UN climate negotiations in Madrid.
The CBA community – and particularly grassroots partners – say the messages that will be gathered at CBA14, derived from real practice and experience, are needed more than ever to ensure that policy is based on local experience and local knowledge.
CBA14 will carry forward conversations from D&C Days and the 2019 'Building a Resilient Future' event. It will pick up on the outcomes of the January 2020 Gobeshona conference and set the stage for global meetings, such as London Climate Action Week and the 18th D&C Days. CBA14 will also link to the Global Commission on Adaptation's ‘Year of Action’ on climate adaptation and its Locally-led Adaptation track, and continue to inform the Least Developed Countries’ Life-AR intiative, which is developing a long-term vision for adapting towards a climate-resilient future by 2050.
