Un conciso resumen del estado del conocimiento y de la experiencia correspondiente al manejo forestal sostenible ha sido preparado como un aporte para las Revisiones, Estrategias y puesta en práctica de las Políticas Forestales del Banco Mundial. Se ha realizado una descripción de las experiencias ganadas sobre los diferentes sistemas forestales, seguidos de una discusión de las perspectivas de los recursos forestales y del mercado de los productos forestales. Se analizan el mercado, las políticas y las faltas institucionales y se remarcan posibles soluciones.

A medium-size report that deals with the overall situation of data on forest resources and plantations in Mali. The report is divided into five main sections that describe the information used (section 1), followed by a number of tables describing different aspects of the country's resources (surface, volume, state of plantations, etc.). The last part of the report gives details about natural forests, plantations as well as how forest resources have evolved through time.

The key influences on forestry in Eritrea are identified in this report which also describes how the country is responding to them with new policy and management schemes.

Le prsent numro d'Unasylva est une introduction au congrs. Il ne contient pas les documents qui seront prsents Mexico, mais un entretien avec M. Edouard Saouma, Directeur gnral de la FAO, et cinq articles qui, on l'espre, constitueront une toile de fond utile pour le congrs. Les sujets de ces articles - la foresterie au-del de l'an 2000, l'agriculture itinrante, l'agroforesterie, la foresterie communautaire et l'aspect social des contrats d'exploitation forestire - ne couvrent nullement l'ensemble des thmes qui seront traits Mexico.
