FAO has a long history of partnership with the countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), providing policy advice, analysis and technical assistance in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, forestry, natural resources management and food security in its commitment to support resilient livelihoods and enhance food security. FAO collaborates with these countries at a global level, as well as at a regional level through a number of regional initiatives, and at a country level via the country programming framework agreed upon with national authorities.
Climate change is likely to have adverse effects on the agriculture sector in Jamaica. Increase in the intensity and frequency of climate related natural hazards, increasing rainfall variability, droughts and floods combined with fragile ecosystems and coastal zones all contribute to Jamaica?s overall vulnerability to climate change. Climate change adaptation is one of the outcomes of the Vision 2030 Jamaica-National Development Plan.
This publication is a set of practical guidelines and norms for field project engineers for the design and building of small hydraulic structures using earth and gabions. This publication would be useful in designing small earth dams with a gabion spillway, intake weirs for gravity irrigation schemes, groynes, river bed training works and for protection against hydraulic erosion.

La Oficina Regional de la FAO para América Latina y el Caribe organiza cada dos años la Reunión de la Comisión Forestal para América Latina y el Caribe (COFLAC), donde se invita a participar a todos los países miembros de la FAO en la Región, para analizar la situación y evolución regional de los bosques y del sector forestal en general, desde la reunión anterior de la Comisión. This country report covers the overall situation of forest resources in Guinea-Bissau. The report includes an introduction covering the main aspects of forest resources in the country. The first part gives some general information about what forest resources are available giving some details about the types of vegetation, biodiversity, etc. The second part of the report covers the vegetation coverage according to the national classification.
Tan sólo nueve meses atrás, la FAO, IPCC, IUFRO y CIFOR organizaron conjuntamente la primera Reunión de expertos sobre la armonización de definiciones relacionadas con el bosque para el uso por varios actores sociales. El objetivo del proceso iniciado en ese entonces era llegar a una armonización de las definiciones relacionadas con el bosque no sólo desde el punto de vista del cambio climático y de la evaluación de los recursos forestales, sino también con respecto a la conservación de la biodiversidad y la ordenación de bosques.
The Regional Workshop convened by M S Swaminathan Research Foundation in collaboration with the Bay of Bengal Programme of FAO (BOBP) is designed to address these issues and to develop an action plan for saving the remaining coral reefs in the SAARC region. Since its establishment in 1989, M S S R F has given priority attention to the conservation and sustainable use of Coastal Mangrove ecosystems. In many areas, Mangroves, sea grass meadows and coral reefs constitute an integrated ecosystem. The Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve represents one such integrated ecosystem.
