This paper represents part of an area of work which analyses the linkages between rights to land and water. An initial scoping paper explored the interface between land and water rights (LSP Working Paper 10: Hodgson, S. (2004). “Land and water – the rights interface”). It is complemented by two regional analyses: this Working Paper and LSP Working Paper 25: IIED. (2006). “Land and water rights in the Sahel: Tenure challenges of improving access to water for agriculture”.

Pone a disposicin de nuestros lectores una seleccin de algunos de los trabajos presentados en el importante Cuarto perodo de sesiones del Comit de Desarrollo Forestal en los Trpicos, de la FAO y, de esta manera, pone de relieve la principal preocupacin de la Organizacin en materia forestal: cul es la mejor manera y la ms adecuada para el hombre de utilizar la formacin ecolgica menos conocida, es decir, los bosques tropicales hmedos.

An overview of NWFP statistics in Rwanda. It emphasises the main species which include medical plants (and their uses), fodder plants, decorative plants, honey producing plants, fruit plants and oil plants. Furthermore, the report also presents information on mushrooms, bushmeat, fishing and activities related to ecotourism.

FAO has been coordinating global forest resources assessments every five to ten years since 1946 (FAO, 2006), with the objective to provide a periodic global and uniform picture of existing forests, derived trends and statistics. Especially FAO’s periodically reported deforestation rates enjoy a high degree of public attention and are widely cited in literature.

Le rapport contextualise et définit le genre dans le cadre des Directives Volontaires, explique ce que signifie gouvernance foncière d’une prospective genre et identifie et analyse les principaux thèmes et questions.

Over the coming 35 years, agriculture will face an unprecedented confluence of pressures, including a 30 percent increase in the global population, intensifying competition for increasingly scarce land, water and energy resources, and the existential threat of climate change. To provide for a population projected to reach 9.3 billion in 2050 and support changing dietary patterns, estimates are that food production will need to increase from the current 8.4 billion tonnes to almost 13.5 billion tonnes a year.

This issue of Unasylva considers some of the issues related to forest-dwelling and forest-dependent people, and particularly their role in and relationship to sustainable forest management.
