Ce numéro de Nature & Faune met le focus sur « La place de la jeunesse africaine dans l’agriculture, les ressources naturelles et le développement rural ». Il compte vingt et un articles contribués par divers auteurs experts dans les secteurs suivants : les politiques, les ONG travaillant dans le domaine de la conservation ; le secteur privé, les groupes de la société civile, la recherche et le milieu universitaire ainsi que les associations de jeunes.

Vous trouverez dans ce numéro une série d’articles sur des thèmes très variés mais qui ont tous en commun la volonté d’améliorer les conditions de vie des populations rurales, en particulier en Afrique. Il est intéressant de noter que deux aspects ressortent avec force de cette variété thématique: la nutrition et le rôle des jeunes, deux aspects du développement qui sont aussi au coeur des activités de la FAO.

Il vous apportera chaque mois des informations sur les évènements importants, les nouvelles publications et les projets. Il vous proposera également des entretiens avec des experts sur diverses thématiques comme la bioénergie, le changement climatique, les ressources génétiques et la biodiversité, les ressources en terres et en eau, les régimes fonciers.

The land challenge is central to the broader youth dynamics of migration, employment, livelihoods and belonging. The more than 1.8 billion youth living worldwide represent not only a land challenge, but an untapped potential in moving the tenure security agenda forward. Recognizing this, the Global Land Tool Network has partnered with UN-Habitat to develop youth responsive land tools through the Youth-led Action Research on Land program. Five action research projects will be undertaken by youth organizations in Brazil, Kenya, Nepal, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

Kenya’s Vision 2030 aims at transforming the country into a newly industrialized middle income country

and infrastructural development is high on the agenda to achieve this. Competing land uses and existing

interests in land make the use of eminent domain by government in acquiring land inevitable. However

most of the land earmarked for compulsory acquisition comprises of un- registered land whose interests

In Kenya, insecure land tenure and inequitable access to land, forest and water resources have contributed to conflict and violence, which has in turn exacerbated food insecurity. To address these interlinked problems, a new set of laws and policies on food security and land governance are currently being introduced or designed by the Government of Kenya. The new Food Security Bill explicitly recognizes the link between food security and land access, and the 2012 land laws target the corrupt system of land administration that made much of Kenya’s land grabbing possible.

Smallholder farmers have a vital role to play in global food security and nutrition, and in supporting a range of development and climate change goals. Strengthening the resilience and commercial viability of these farmers, particularly women and youth, can increase their capacity to contribute to these global goals.
