Promising Aquaculture Technologies and Innovations for Transforming Food Systems Toward Low Emission Pathways in Kenya: A Review

Diciembre, 2022
Kenya

This work aimed at (1) reviewing published documents and reports to identify TIMPs with the potential for scaling to reduce GHGE, (2) identifying the constraints and challenges faced by different value chain actors in scaling aquatic food system TIMPs from the angle of low emission development, (3) identifying potential social, economic, and environmental co-benefits and spillover effects from scaling the TIMPs, and (4) conducting a stakeholder consultation in Kisumu County, Kenya, to map out aquaculture value chains and identify sources of emissions, and identify promising TIMPs for scalin

Cloud-based crop type mapping for Nandi County, Kenya

Diciembre, 2022
Kenya

Crop type mapping is essential to agriculture applications, including yield estimates, crop planting acreage statistics, agricultural market predictions, and land use change analysis that support relevant decision-making. Since 2008, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has produced the annual Cropland Data Layer (CDL) with 108 crop types and 26 other land-use types for the CONUS Climate Console at 30 meters spatial resolution.

Value Chain Analysis and Actors Mapping – Case of Tunisia

Diciembre, 2022
Tunisia

The objective of this report is to analyze, mapping and select the main value chains with potential to integrate the agroecological principles in Tunisia. Based on the secondary data, rapid value chain analysis, focus group discussions at the living labs and participatory approach with the main stakeholders, three value chains were identified in Siliana and Kef governorates: olive oil, sheep meat and honey. The VC assessment according to agroecological principles conducted with the main actors places the olive oil VC as the major value chain with agroecological character.

The CGIAR Initiative on Aquatic Foods: Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Strategy

Diciembre, 2022
Malaysia

This CGIAR Initiative on Aquatic Foods: Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Strategy provides guidance on how to undertake AqFS research for development through a gender lens. The strategy’s main objectives are: (i) to ensure that there is gender inclusiveness and responsiveness in technological, social, financial and institutional innovations; (ii) to provide avenues for wealth generation and improving livelihoods of people relying on small-scale fisheries (SSFs) and sustainable aquaculture; (iii) to pave the

The Livestock and Climate Initiative of One CGIAR participated in a multitude of side events to moving livestock and climate up the agenda both in terms of mitigating the impact of livestock on the climate and supporting livestock farmers to adapt to climate change.

How gender norms constrain women's economic resilience to climate change challenges in Nigeria

Diciembre, 2022
Nigeria

This report presents the findings of qualitative assessments conducted on inequitable norms that restrict women’s capacities to build economic resilience to climate change challenges in Nigeria. The study sought to answer the following question: What gender norms prevent women from building economic resilience to
climate change challenges in agrifood systems (AFSs), and to what extent do these discriminatory biases exist at different institutional levels?

Climate change, Gender and Livelihoods Among Fisher communities in the Lake Victoria Zone Region in Kenya: Report of Proceedings of the Multi-stakeholder Technical Workshop

Diciembre, 2022
Kenya

This workshop report is about climate change, gender and livelihoods among fisher communities in the Lake Victoria Zone Region in Kenya. The purpose of the workshop was to share and validate the findings of the scoping study carried out by WorldFish from March to July, 2023. The objective of the study was to assess through a gender lens how climate change affects the fishing communities in two riparian counties, specifically in Homabay and Migori counties, which are located along Kenya’s Lake Victoria Zone Region.

Scoping Study Report: Potential Existing Value Chains in the North-West Region of Tunisia

Diciembre, 2022
Tunisia

The objective of this report is to select the main value chains with potential to integrate the agroecological principles in the Northwest of Tunisia. A descriptive analysis on the two governorates chosen was first made, then 4 focus group discussions were organized with local farmers associations. The VC assessment according to agroecological principles conducted with the main actors places the olive oil VC as the major value chain with agroecological character.

Measuring above-ground carbon stock using spatial analysis and the InVEST model: Application in the Thoria Watershed, India

Diciembre, 2022
India

We present an application of the method to the Thoria watershed in India. We analyze land cover changes in the Thoria watershed between the years 2000, 2020 and future scenarios, and subsequently map the above-ground carbon stock using the InVEST model along with remotely sensed data. The land use products and above-ground carbon stock modelling results can be used by diverse stakeholders to support land use planning, especially decisions around how to allocate land resource to balance food production, carbon sequestration, and other ecosystem services provided by common lands.
