Mission and Vision
A just world, without poverty. That is our mission. We believe that people can build independent livelihoods, provided their rights are respected. That is why we help people around the world to stand up for their rights.
1. Right to sustainable livelihood resources
Everybody must be sure of a fair income and enough to eat. Yet this is not the case for 20% of the world’s population. That is why we are working on better access to land and water, and on fair working and trading conditions.
2. Right to basic social services
Education and health care are essential for building better societies. Yet even as we make progress towards universal primary education, around the world, there are still 130 million kids in school who fail to learn basic reading, writing and maths. When governments fail to deliver, Oxfam together with partner organizations invest in quality basic social services.
3. Right to life and security
Natural disasters, climate change and armed conflicts hit millions of people every year. We support them with relief aid and reconstruction. And we prepare people to prevent or mitigate the effects of disasters and conflicts.
4. Right to social and political participation
Knowledge is power. We believe that when people can participate in public decisions that affect them, they can build independent livelihoods and thriving communities.Together with partners we give people access to information and a voice.
5. Right to an identity
Gender inequality is both a violation of human rights and an obstacle to sustainable development. In a just world there is no place for the discrimination of women and minorities.

We call on those in power to consider people in a vulnerable position in word and action. And we of course account for our own work to governments, donors, supporters, volunteers, corporations and almost 17 million Dutch men and women.

We are all equal, irrespective of the accident of birth, gender, faith or sexual orientation. In all our work we give special attention to the position and rights of women and minorities. And given the potentially pivotal role of women as agents of change, gender justice is at the heart of everything we do.

General
The project aims to promote sustainable environmental management in the Chimanimani Conservation Area (ACC). At the level of the Chimanimani National Park, the project will support the conservation and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage; in the buffer zone, the project will support the sustainable management of natural resources for the benefit of local communities. The aim of the project is therefore to achieve a balance between improving the socioeconomic conditions of local populations and striving to conserve natural resources and biodiversity while protecting the integrity of the National Park. Content: The project consists of four operational components and a support component for project management. Micaia Foundation will implement Components 2 and 3. Component 2 "Planning" provides for the strengthening of land rights for local communities, as a prerequisite for better management of land and natural resources. This will involve the delimitation of community lands at the level of families, and the development of Sustainable Territorial Management Plans. In addition, the Community Conservation Areas, which are currently inoperative, will be revitalized and will benefit from a local financing mechanism (Community Environmental Conservation Fund). Component 3 focuses on improving livelihoods based on non-timber forest products (NTFP). One part of the component is the further professionalization of beekeeping, with the aim of increasing the tonnage placed on the market and increasing the income of local communities. At the same time, two other NTFP value chains will be developed and accompanied by resource management plans.
LAND-at-scale Chad- Land reform based on rapid evolution and present crisis
General
Chad is at the verge of an emerging land tenure crisis. As observed in many countries in Africa, formal and customary tenure systems overlap. Customary tenure systems, that generally prevail in rural areas, differ from region to region, with each its own needs and practices. Land conflicts are abundant, caused by degradation and transformation of land surfaces caused by climate change, as well as land investments by domestic investors with disputed legitimacy. Women, particularly, struggle in practice to obtain the same rights to land as men, even though country’s constitution enshrines gender equality. These land challenges play against a backdrop of a country in conflict. A land tenure crisis could lead to more disputes over land, weakened land productivity, uncontrolled urban development, and result in further social unrest of the country if not adequately addressed. Project objective The project aims to contribute to a more transparent and inclusive land administration system in Chad, especially for tenure insecure groups (women and youth), which creates security for communities to invest in sustainable income generating activities. Project strategies - Finalization of the Land Code: a review and rewrite of the content, combined with a multi-stakeholder validation workshop - Support to socio-economic land reform, with special attention for inclusion of women and youth, strengthening civil society organizations, capacity building on agricultural practices and dispute resolution mechanisms. - Improving the land registration system in N’Djamena by developing a blueprint of the current situation and roadmap towards the preferred future situation, together with the relevant government authorities in Chad.
