We conducted a systematic review on the effects of land tenure recognition interventions on agricultural productivity, income, investment and other relevant outcomes. We synthesise findings from 20 quantitative studies and nine qualitative studies that passed a methodological screening. The results indicate substantial productivity and income gains from land tenure recognition, although gains differ markedly by region. We find that these effects may operate through gains in perceived tenure security and investment; we find no evidence for a credit mechanism.

This paper explores assumptions about the drivers of forest cover change in a Payments for Environmental Services (PES) and Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) context in the Lam Dong Province in Vietnam. In policy discourses, deforestation is often linked to'poor' and 'ethnic minority' households and their unsustainable practices such as the expansion of coffee production (and other agricultural activities) into forest areas.

ABSTRACTED FROM WEBSITE INTRODUCTION: This briefing looks at the particular situation of people displaced by armed conflict. It will do so from the perspective that displacement is complicated in its own right, but any proposed solutions to displacement must also be understood in a wider context of rapid land polarization. Failure to take this perspective risks more harm than good. For people affected by displacement, land is much more than just an economic asset.

Political transitions often trigger substantial environmental changes. In particular, deforestation can result from the complex interplay among the components of a system—actors, institutions, and existing policies—adapting to new opportunities. A dynamic conceptual map of system components is particularly useful for systems in which multiple actors, each with different worldviews and motivations, may be simultaneously trying to alter different facets of the system, unaware of the impacts on other components.

This study investigates how the Farmer-to-Farmer-Extension (F2FE) system with lead farmers and follower farmers influences adoption of Conservation Agriculture (CA) technologies in Malawi. Using data from 180 lead farmers and their 455 followers in central and southern Malawi, we assess the level of influence lead farmers have on their followers’ familiarity with and adoption of CA.

La particularidad de la Asociación de jóvenes productores ecológicos de Paucartambo integrada por 14 jóvenes (mujeres y hombres) entre 18 y 29 años de edad, es su involucramiento con la agricultura. La producción familiar ha persistido y superado muchas crisis, llevando adelante estrategias para reproducir sus condiciones de vida en el campo. Pero si bien en Uruguay ha recibido atención de las políticas públicas en los últimos años, su importancia en la estructura agraria nacional continúa disminuyendo desde mediados del siglo XX, dificultando el desarrollo de modelos “no capitalistas”, con los que confronta el agronegocio.

Los Lineamientos estratégicos de política pública para la Agricultura Campesina, Familiar y Comunitaria (ACFC) son un instrumento de política pública, de alcance nacional, cuyo objetivo es fortalecer las capacidades sociales, económicas y políticas de las familias, comunidades y organizaciones de ACFC, sobre la base de un desarrollo rural con enfoque territorial que mejore la sostenibilidad de la producción agropecuaria y genere bienestar y buen vivir de la población rural.

The first agricultural census (AC) was conducted in 2004. The AC 2014 was the second AC, conducted in conjunction with the 2014 General Population Census  (GPC).

Some commercial farmers in Serenje District, Central Province of Zambia, have acquired thousands of hectares while ignoring laws meant to prevent forced evictions. Some have used bulldozers to forcibly evict residents whose families have farmed the land for generations. This has been devastating for the communities and particularly hard on women.

This gender-sensitive toolkit enables civil society organisations, women and communities, as well as other actors to assess each country’s current legal framework and tenure governance arrangements in line with the provisions of the VGGTS and the AU F&G.
