Improving the efficiency measurements of the forest land using the methods of satellite and terrestrial geodesy

Currently the most common methods in forestry mapping includes digital photogrammetry, positioning points system using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), or a combination of polar method using universal surveying stations. Due to the fact the forest environment its specific conditions – cover stand, complex terrain in many cases the use of these methods in forestry surveying practice to some extent limited.

Technical parameters dynamics of WOODY 110 cable skidder within the range of stopping due to overload in uphill wood skidding

The article deals with uphill wood skidding with WOODY 110 skidder and the changes taking place in technical parameters: slip, torque, tractive forces, and weight distribution of a loaded tractor in the last three meters of skidding, which is defined as a range of stopping due to overload. The test was performed on a concave skid trail, where tractor loaded with 8 meter long fir logs stopped at the 32% incline. It stopped somewhat later when skidding with butt-end forward in comparison to skidding with top-end forward.

Measuring the limits of uphill timber skidding with a WOODY 110 forestry tractor

The paper deals with the test results of uphill skidding of wood with a WOODY 110 cable skidder. The aim of the study was to find the limits of uphill skidding in relation to load size, log orientation and the slope. The trial was prepared on a test track of concave shape in the forest and with pre-designed loads of different sizes. The loads were skidded uphill once withbutt-end and then with top-end forward, until the tractor stopped because of the slope. The results show that butt-end forward skidding is more efficient.

The estimates of emission and absorption of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases obtained according to the requirements of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change with using methodology of the Center for forest ecology and productivity RAS are represented. The calculations were made for the managed forest lands distinguished in the territory of the Russian Federation Forest Fund (the 74% of forest land). From 1990 to 2009, managed forests were sinks for carbon dioxide from 231.5 mill. t of CO2 in 1990 to 700.8 mill. t of CO2 in 2009.

This paper attempts to provide an interdisciplinary concept of the bio-economy in the context of environmental changes in the Polish agriculture. Various definitions of bio-economy have been presented and its place in the sustainable development theory has been described. The aim of this paper is to present the environmental changes in Polish agriculture in the context of the bio-economy. For this purpose uses the information published by the Central Statistical Office and Eurostat. To showcase and presentation methods were used descriptive and tabular.

Changes in the fragmentation and ecological stability of the Morava River floodplain forest in the course of the 20th century

This paper presents the results of an analysis of the changes in the fragmentation and ecological stability of the floodplain forest geobiocoenoses in the Protected Landscape Area Litovelske Pomoravi, Czech Republic. Using GIS methods, it was determined that the fragmentation within the study area had increased slightly and the ecological stability of the landscape had decreased slightly between the years 1938 and 2006, although the latter remained on a fairly high level.

In this study, biodiversity, isolation and identification of entomopathogenic fungi were determined in different altitudes of Başkonuş Forestland soil in Kahramanmaraş.

Assessing maximum loads when skidding wood uphill with tractors

The results of measuring maximum loads on different slopes when skidding uphill with WOO DY 110 cable skidder and adapted 4WD agricultural tractor AGT 835 are described in the article. Both tractors are very different and were chosen for the purpose of finding the limits of uphill skidding. Besides the slope, the pre-designated loads of different sizes and log orientation (butt-end or top-end forward) have been main variables. The trial was conducted on two concave shaped test skid trails in the forest.

Changes in resources building infrastructure after modification organization in the -State Forests National - Forest Holding

The restructuring of the State Forests National Forest Holding activity also covered the functioning of the existing forest building infrastructure in the forest district administrations. In the paper I present the issues and specificity of forest building engineering, as well as problems connected with the sales of buildings offered by the State Forests National Forest Holding in 1999-2008. To illustrate the process of selling buildings in RDSF, an analysis of real estate foreseen for sale and listed in the -Information Bulletin of State Forests - in 1999 to 2008 was carried out.

Who owns the world’s forests, and who decides on their governance? The answers to these questions are still deeply contested. To many Indigenous Peoples and local communities who have lived in and around forests for generations, the forests belong to them, under locally defined systems of customary tenure. In most countries, however, governments have claimed ownership of much of the forest estate through historical processes of expropriation, and those claims have been formalized in statutory laws.
