The Office for Consumer Protection, Agriculture and Land Consolidation is in the Land Berlin, inter alia, responsible for the promotion of the integrated agricultural development, water resources and technical measures. Moreover, it is responsible for the implementation of land consolidation measures, as well as measures relating to ecological agriculture and the marking of agricultural products and feedstuff resulting thereof. The purpose of the present Ordinance is to protect and conserve valuable living space and landscape through compliance of ecological requirements in agriculture. In particular, it regulates the financial contributions of the Canton to attain such results. The cultivation, maintenance and use of certain areas shall maintain their characteristic plants. According to article 12 the amount of contributions depends on various factors thereby envisaged. Part 5 deals with details of contracts made for particular cultivations.

This Regulation, made under the Fertilizing Substances Act, makes provision for the implementation of article 5, forth comma of the Council Directive 91/676/EEC concerning the protection of waters against pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources. These Regulations amend in relation to England, the Organic Products Regulations 2004 and the Environmental Stewardship (England) Regulations 2005 so as to update definitions of "the Council Regulation" to refer to the latest amending instrument, namely Commission Regulation (EC) No. 780/2006.
