La semana pasado CONDESAN estuvo presentando nuestra experiencia, vinculada a los mecanismos para compartir beneficios en cuencas hidrográficas, a través de una presentación a cargo de Bert De Bievre, Coordinador del Área de Cuencas Andinas, en el Seminario Taller Internacional de Cultura del Agua organizado por la Secretaría del Agua del Ecuador; a través de la Dirección Nacional de Cultura y en coordinación con la Red Latinoamericana de Centros del Conocimiento en Gestión de Recursos Hídricos (RALCEA).

Intrastate peace agreements and the durability of peace

The article debunks the conception that peace agreements are all equal. Distinct from the conventional monocausal assessment, I view the peace agreement as a cohesive whole and evaluate its strength in terms of its structural and procedural provisions. I use data on the length of intrastate peace episodes during the period from 1946 to 2010. My key finding is that the design quality of the peace agreement has a significant impact on the durability of peace.

Research was conducted in Alutilla Valley in eastern Bangladesh to identify the nature of existing agroforestry systems and to identify potential agroforestry models that could ameliorate currently degrading forest resources Data were collected through farmer participatory research and a structured quarterly survey in two villages. Qualitative and supplementary quantitative analysis methods were used to assess the financial potential of agroforestry systems.

The Cadastral system in Kenya was established in 1903 to support land alienation for the white settlers who had come into the country in the early part of the 20th Century. In the last hundred years, the system has remained more or less the same, where land records are kept in paper format and majority of operations are carried out on a manual basis. The lack of a modern cadastral system has contributed to problems in land administration in the country.
