Article 13 shall be amended to add the following wording: “Article 13. Flora and fauna management companies. 1. Firms handling green spaces and plantations must have specialists who, in accordance with the procedure referred to in Article 12 (1) of this Law, would be entitled to carry out planting, growing trees and shrub pruning, protecting against diseases and pests plantations, lawns and flower beds. 2. State-owned car parks are protected and maintained by state road maintenance companies. 3.

This Regional Legislative Decree, consisting of 171 articles divided into nine Chapters, establishes the general bases of the Public Policy for Land, Regional Territorial Planning and Urbanism within the Autonomous Region of Madeira. This Regional Legislative Decree under Law n. 31/2014, of May 30, defines the regional system for the territorial management.

As of 2017, the City of Cape Town offers little support to residents who will become homeless because of eviction, except a one way ticket to a relocation camp on the periphery of the city.  Good law led to a clear obligation to provide temporary emergency accommodation but was very poorly implemented. Relocation camps on the periphery isolate residents from community networks and affect their ability to access good services and income. 

As we turn the page on MDGs to SDGs, the unprecedented proliferation of slums and informal settlements, and a chronic lack of adequate housing, continues to be amongst the major challenges of urbanization. Slums, informal settlements and inadequate housing remain the visible manifestations of poverty and inequality in cities. Inadequate housing complements the measurement of slums, particularly in the developed world, in order not to leave anyone behind.

Cities function in an efficient, equitable and sustainable manner only when private and public spaces work in a symbiotic relation to enhance each other. Public space generates equality, however in the past decades it has been drastically been reduced. Inadequate, poorly designed, or privatized public spaces generate exclusion and marginalization.

A defining feature of many of the world’s cities is an outward expansion far beyond formal administrative boundaries, largely propelled by the use of the automobile, poor urban and regional planning and land speculation. A large proportion of cities both from developed and developing countries have high consuming suburban expansion patterns which often extend to even further peripheries. Cities need to accommodate new and thriving urban functions such as transportation routes, etc. as they expand.

Zambia remains committed to the socio-economic development planning of the country as reflected by the return to development planning in 2005. The Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) for the period 2017- 2021 is the successor to the Revised Sixth National Development Plan, 2013-2016 (R-SNDP) following its expiry in December 2016. The Plan, like the three national development plans (NDPs) that preceded it, is aimed at attaining the long-term objectives as outlined in the Vision 2030 of becoming a “prosperous middle-income country by 2030”.

El presente Reglamento de Renovación Urbana, tiene por objetivo complementar las herramientas establecidas en el artículo 21 de la Ley de Planificación Urbana, y fijar las normas que deberán adoptarse para rehabilitar, remodelar o regenerar las áreas urbanas disfuncionales, o conservar áreas urbanas, cuya intervención sea considerada estratégica por parte de los gobiernos municipales o el Estado.

Las ciudades son espacios estratégicos para que las sociedades de América Latina y el Caribe puedan transitar hacia el desarrollo sostenible. Se estima que más del 80% de la población de la región es urbana, y las ciudades del continente concentran el poder económico, político y administrativo. La explosión demográfica de las décadas anteriores llevó a una urbanización más bien espontánea, regida por mecanismos de mercado, y produjo territorios urbanos muy desiguales y frágiles desde el punto de vista ambiental, sin planificación ni visión de largo plazo.

This policy note presents an analysis of and recommendations on the city competitiveness improvement and is part of a broader Philippines urbanization study. The analysis draws on the competitive city framework which includes four pillars: 1. institutions and regulations; 2. infrastructure and land; 3. skills and innovation; 4. enterprise support and finance. It analyzes factors that constrain city competiveness, the role that city governments can play, and provides policy recommendations based on both the Filipino and international good practices in promoting city competitiveness.

This policy note assesses the performance of existing land administration and management (LAM) system in the Philippines in creating an environment for competitive cities. It looks at the influence of LAM (including property rights) in the proper functioning of land markets in urban areas; the effectiveness of land use planning and regulations in shaping urban growth, reducing informality, and improving efficiency in use of space; and the impacts of property valuation and taxation practices in generating revenues to finance local development plans.
