A presentation on the experiences of applying participatory rangeland management (PRM) in Kenya and Tanzania and opportunities for spillover and scaling up. PRM is being implemented by AICCRA and the Initiative on Livestock and Climate.

As part of the project implementation activities, ACT was task to profile CA and CA-based mechanization in the project sites to ascertain the status of adoption and practice and establish possible challenges that hinder massive and widespread adoption of the technologies.
The study provided overview of CA practice status, actions by various stakeholders in the targeted Counties, recommend the best bet practices and scaling up of CA innovations for massive and greatest impact.

The SI-MFS initiative in Bangladesh working on different innovations such as intensifying and diversifying cropping systems for better crop-livestock integration, intensifying and diversifying homestead gardens for improved nutrition, and sustainable intensification of livestock production within MFS. Under these initiatives, SI-MFS has done several scaling activities in 2023.

The rising concerns of over-exploitation of groundwater resources, increasing cost of inputs and cultivation, timely availability of labor and energy, degradation of soil health, and climate change prevail in major agri-food systems in Bangladesh. Thus, reversing the unsustainable way of practicing agriculture to climate-smart agriculture would be key to sustainable agricultural development and productivity.

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is a tropical fruit with a unique flavor and high nutritional benefits. It is considered the most important fruit crop in the country based on its high export volume and value, next to banana and pineapple (Department of Agriculture, 2013). The 'Carabao' mango, also known as the 'Super Manila' mango, is a popular variety in the international market. Over the years, there has been an increase in demand for mangoes. However, the Philippines is facing challenges in consistently delivering high quality mangoes to major markets.

Sri Lanka is blessed with ideal conditions for cultivating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The country has around 80 varieties produced in different agroecological zones. There are several government and private organizations supporting vegetable farmers and farmers are organized into formally registered organizations. However, the average consumption of fruits and vegetables in Sri Lanka is around 150 g per day and per capita consumption is approximately 112 g per day, which is 50% lower than the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations (SAARC 2017).

Food production and rural livelihoods' food security in Nepal face numerous threats for various reasons. Similar to global trends, the country contends with unpredictable weather patterns, including heat and drought stress on plants, as well as heavy precipitation. Around 80% of Nepal’s population is dependent on subsistence farming for their livelihood, while only 24% of all arable land is irrigated (Suhardiman et al., 2015).

This training manual on “Improved management practices on rice-fish and dike cropping” offers guidance for organizing training sessions with pertinent farmers and extension workers. This publication provides an overview on Rice-Fish farming system including importance, advantage and disadvantage, type and technique of rice-fish culture and role of rice, fish, and vegetable in nutrition, livelihood, and economics. It also details the identification and preparation of land conducive to rice-fish and vegetable cultivation, in addition to providing guidance on rice cultivation management.

CGIAR’s Research Initiative on Sustainable Animal Productivity (also known as SAPLING – sustainable animal productivity for livelihoods, income, nutrition, and gender inclusion) has adopted an integrated approach to contribute to the transformation of the dairy sector in Nepal to make dairy production with buffaloes more productive, resilient, equitable and sustainable.

In Ethiopia, pastoralism is an important means of livelihood for more than four million people, with most pastoralists living in the Somali, Afar, Oromia and Southern Nations regions.
