National Academic Research and Collaborations Information System (NARCIS) is the main Dutch national portal for those looking for information about researchers and their work. NARCIS aggregates data from around 30 institutional repositories. Besides researchers, NARCIS is also used by students, journalists and people working in educational and government institutions as well as the business sector.

NARCIS provides access to scientific information, including (open access) publications from the repositories of all the Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO and a number of research institutes, datasets from some data archives as well as descriptions of research projects, researchers and research institutes.

This means that NARCIS cannot be used as an entry point to access complete overviews of publications of researchers (yet). However, there are more institutions that make all their scientific publications accessible via NARCIS. By doing so, it will become possible to create much more complete publication lists of researchers.

In 2004, the development of NARCIS started as a cooperation project of KNAW Research Information, NWO, VSNU and METIS, as part of the development of services within the DARE programme of SURFfoundation. This project resulted in the NARCIS portal, in which the DAREnet service was incorporated in January 2007. NARCIS has been part of DANS since 2011.

DANS - Data Archiving and Networked Services - is the Netherlands Institute for permanent access to digital research resources. DANS encourages researchers to make their digital research data and related outputs Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

Journal Articles & Books

Landscape Ecology and Rural Roads: Traffic Calming for improving both landscape and ecology?

Conference Papers & Reports

The concept of traffic calming has successfully improved road safety. This concept applied in rural areas has provided new insights in the mitigation of negative effects of roads and traffic. Earlier studies have shown that the concept, distinguishing between local access roads and rural arterial highways, also can improve landscape connectivity for wildlife. Physical speed reducing devices are frequently used in the context of traffic calming, but applying these devices may negatively impact the coherence and identity of the landscape.

Reports & Research

Contribution of cadastral information to climate change policy in the Netherlands

Conference Papers & Reports

In the challenge to cope with climate change, the importance of urban areas is increasingly acknowledged. This article provides an outline of the use of cadastral information, combined with other spatial datasets in support of climate change policy within the context of the Netherlands. The examples of the municipalities Bussum and Apeldoorn are used to explain and discuss the use of cadastral data to support governments in their climate policies.

The concept of integration in spatial planning: An exploration

Conference Papers & Reports

Integration has become a central standpoint in planning practices in Europe. Multifunctionality, complexity, coordination, and partnership are concepts often mentioned in connection with integration in planning processes. Although these concepts do not automatically reflect an integrated planning practice, they are used as signifiers to show the necessity of integration in planning projects. The apparent role of integration in planning is revealed in studies of several researchers. A universal definition of the concept of integration seems to be lacking.
