This report describes a model that has been produced to help forestry administration staff in Suriname to calculate roundwood production costs and economic rent. It includes a detailed description of how to use the model, which could be used in other countries.

This report discusses these trends by reference to examples from many countries which suggest viable ways to realise the development potential of wood energy without environmental or social drawbacks. It describes a changing role for wood energy in a changing world where fuelwood and wood-based fuels need no longer be associated with poverty or underdevelopment but could rank among viable modern options open to energy users everywhere.

Summary of conference proceedings incorporating the text of papers presented

For much of the world's tropical population, coral reefs are synonymous with reef fish and edible marine invertebrates. Reef-related fisheries are important to small-scale fisherfolk, as a source of both protein and livelihood security for local coastal communities. In all of Asia, coral reef resources play a role in the food and livelihood security of coastal communities. Perhaps nowhere in Asia in this role more important than in the Maldives.

Bioenergy has received a lot of attention over the past years, both from the side of governments looking for ways to mitigate climate change, ensure energy security, strengthen the agricultural sector and promote development, and investors seizing business opportunities that occurred largely due to government support in the form of targets and mandates.

The FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF) for the Pacific Sub-Region is a five year strategic program framework covering the period 2013-2017. It details outcomes and outputs in four priority result areas to which FAO assistance will be focused to address the development challenges and national priorities in thirteen Pacific Island Countries and one Territory, namely Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
