Dans ce numéro, nous examinerons le Partenariat mondial sur les bioénergies et le travail important qu’il a entrepris – en collaboration avec les gouvernements et les institutions internationales – pour formuler des indicateurs de durabilité pour les projets de bioénergie. Nous nous intéresserons aussi à l’Initiative ‘Aliments pour les villes’, une approche intégratrice pour coordonner les activités de la FAO dans les zones urbaines et périurbaines et pour partager les bonnes pratiques avec d’autres organisations internationales et de la société civile.

La présente note a été établie en vue de la sessio n plénière de la Semaine européenne des forêts intitulée «Les forêts et l’eau», qui se tiendra le jeudi 23 octobre 2008 1 . Elle a pour objet de promouvoir un débat nourri et éclairé en donnant au lecteur de s informations générales et en soulevant des questi ons que les participants à la session souhaiteront peut -être examiner au cours du débat.

Han transcurrido 17 años desde la iniciación, en 1985, del conjunto de procesos nacionales de programación y ejecución de actividades forestales que contribuyen al desarrollo sostenible, conocido en un comienzo como los Planes de Acción Forestal Tropical (PAFT), y posteriormente, en 1992, con la revisión del marco inicial como los Programas de Acción Forestal Nacional (PAFN). Sucesivos esfuerzos para fortalecer esos procesos, superando sus iniciales deficiencias, dieron lugar a la estructuración de los programas forestales nacionales.

A full description of the forest sector in the Togolese Republic. The first part of the report underlines the differences between the natural forest versus the plantations and the availability of forest resources in the country. In addition, the second part also includes a synopsis of what forest products are consumed and those exported. The second part of the report describes the actual state of the statistics of these products. It comments the most important forest products like present situation in the country like construction wood, fuelwood, charcoal, round wood and sawn timber.

This report presents the results of an exercise to model forest industry development in Liberia. It presents background information about Liberia and the forestry sector, then discusses the trends and projections in forest cover and production and trade of forest products. It suggests that forest resources will not be able to meet future demand for wood and recommends that forest plantations should be planted to meet this demand.

A presentation of the important forest food and utility species in Mozambique with a background description of the country's forest resources
