This Resolution has been drafted to add some specific information to the Regulation on procedures and principles of determination, registration and approval of protected areas. According to the ecological based scientific research projects, this Resolution clarifies the definition and guidelines of sensitive areas, special protection areas, protected areas with sustainable use of natural resource, and areas off site of the settlement and development areas in the Environmental Plan.

This Act provides for the establishment of the Protected Areas Commission, the Protected Areas Trust and a Trust Fund and empowers the Minister to declare national protected areas. It applies to the territorial sea, exclusive economic zone, fishery zone and continental shelf as defined in the Maritime Zones Act 2010. The Act alos provides with respect to the National Protected Areas System and allows village councils to apply to the Commission for village lands or any part thereof to be recognised as an Amerindian protected area.

Declaration of Kanashen Village as an Amerindian Protected Area.

This Instrument, made by the Minister of State under section 39 of the Protected Areas Act declares Kanashen Village to be an Amerindian Protected Area. Kanashen Village is communal village lands held by the Village Council on behalf of the Wai Wai Amerindian people of that Village. The Village Council is the Sole Management Authority for the Amerindian Protected Area. The area will be managed as a Category VI: Protected area with sustainable use of natural resources protected area under the International Union for Conservation of Nature Protected Areas Categories System.

Resolution on wind power stations in protected areas.

This Resolution sets forth principles and guidelines of application for wind power stations in protected areas. This Regulation underlines that the applications will be evaluated by the Regional Committees for preservation of natural heritage, in accordance with the scientific reports. The protected areas are divided into two categories, such as (i) sensitive areas with high protection and (ii) protected areas with sustainable use of natural resource.
