Rural Poverty and Natural Resources: Improving Access and Sustainable Management
This paper was prepared as a Background Paper for Chapter 2 of the International Fund for Agricultural Development’s 2009 Rural Poverty Report. It begins by providing an overview discussion of the diversity of natural resources in developing countries, and rights of access, tenure and governance relevant to the rural poor, who are disproportionately dependent on natural resources.

The culture of access to mountain natural resources
This study investigates the political and contentious nature of access to mountain natural resources by poor, disadvantaged and marginalized people, including women and youth, and the policy processes associated with access and development over time. This study has been commissioned by FAO to look at sustainable livelihoods approaches to access to natural resources in mountain areas. We concentrate on access by poorer and marginalized groups to policy processes whereby long-term sustainable access to resources is achieved.

يستكشف تقرير حالة الأغذية والزراعة 2008 انعكاسات النمو السريع الذي حدث مؤخراً في إنتاج الوقود الحيوي القائم على السلع الأساسية الزراعية. والازدهار الذي شهده إنتاج الوقود الحيوي السائل تقف وراءه، إلى حد كبير، سياسات في البلدان المتقدمة تستند إلى مساهمات ذلك الوقود الإيجابية المتوقعة في التخفيف من تغير المناخ وتحقيق أمن الطاقة والتنمية الزراعية. والطلب المتزايد على السلع الأساسية الزراعية، من أجل إنتاج الوقود الحيوي، تترتب عليه عواقب كبيرة بالنسبة للأسواق الزراعية، ويتصاعد القلق بشأن تأثيره السلبي على الأمن الغذائي لملايين البشر في مختلف أنحاء العالم.
