Practical Guide for Improving Gender Equality in Territorial Issues (IGETI)

This guide presents a people-centred gender approach to increase and improve the provision of goods and services from agriculture, forestry and fisheries in a sustainable manner while reducing rural poverty. It first introduces the proposed approach for improving gender equality in territorial issues, with specific guidance for each phase of the gender-response planning process. Then, it presents some available participatory tools to support planning of gender-responsive territorial development.

La Convención sobre la eliminación de todas las formas de discriminación contra la mujer (CETFDCM) define el concepto de igualdad y dice cómo lograrla. Las políticas proponen marcos de referencia para que vivamos de manera igualitaria, pero ¿cómo hacerlo si la misma sociedad es la que enseña a ser desiguales? Este trabajo ofrece un panorama histórico de los avances y retrocesos en materia de equidad de género. For the purposes of this article, we address gender inequality as a dimension ofsocioeconomic inequality expressed in Costa Rica. Through the evaluation of a seriesof socioeconomic variables, we show that even when the country has moved forward interms of recognition of women rights, there is still much to do to achieve greater levels ofequality in the access to productive resources, socio-economic assets and employment.

Se analiza la forma en que se expresa y recrea la discriminación de género en los procesos de adopciónde decisiones sobre la asignación de derechos de agua en el Distrito de Riego 101 Cuxtepeques, localizadoen la cuenca del río Grijalva, en Chiapas, al sur de México. Se destaca la relevante participación de lasmujeres campesinas propietarias de tierra, tanto en la producción agropecuaria y en las labores de riego,como en la subsistencia de sus hogares en su calidad de jefas de familia.
