Con una superficie de 342.000 km, la República del Congo (también conocida como Congo) se encuentra en el corazón de la segunda selva tropical más grande del mundo, después de la cuenca del Amazonas. El país también alberga parte de la mayor turbera tropical del mundo, un ecosistema que absorbe y almacena grandes cantidades de carbono. Con una población de 5,7 millones de habitantes en 2022, el país tiene una de las densidades de población más bajas de África. En cuanto a la tenencia de la tierra, la infrapoblación de las zonas rurales ayuda a preservar los bosques, pero plantea retos en términos de producción agrícola y seguridad alimentaria.
