Ill-regulated land acquisition and unilateral land concessions may often trigger forced relocations, conflicts and human rights abuses. This course introduces the concept of Free, Prior and Informed Consent that indigenous people and small family farmers can use to protect their customary or traditional land rights. The process ensures that communities can participate in decision-making processes and that their concerns, priorities and preferences are accommodated in any project affecting their lands, territories and resources.

شهد استخدام المياه على المستوى العالمي زيادة بمعدل فاق معدل الزيادة السكانية بمقدار الضعف خلال القرن الفائت، ووصل عدد أكبر من الأقاليم إلى الحد الذي لا يمكن بعده توفير خدمات مياه يعتمد عليها. وتضطلع منظمة الأغذية والزراعة، بالتعاون مع وزارة الزراعة ووزارة المياه والطاقة، بتنفيذ عدد من المشاريع في لبنان للتأقلم مع شح المياه وتحسين الأمن الغذائي واستئصال شأفة الفقر. وتأتي هذه المشاريع ضمن برنامج «التأقلم مع شح المياه ودور الزراعة » لمنظمة الأغذية والزراعة الذي جرى تحديده كواحد من البرامج المرجعية والرئيسية للتعاون بين الحكومة الإيطالية ومنظمة الأغذية والزراعة.

The Netherlands shares FAO’s continued interest in developing programmes for the financial inclusion of family farmers, especially women, by treating them as entrepreneurs and promoting their access to better credit and resilience. The Netherlands is also one of FAO’s largest donors for locust control issues.

This publication presents the outcome of the twenty-fifth session of the Asia and Pacific Commission on Agricultural Statistics (APCAS) held in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic from 18 to 21 February 2014. Attended by 87 participants, including 64 delegates from 19 APCAS member countries, the session assessed both the current status of food and agriculture statistics in member countries and progress made in implementation of the both the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics in the region and the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2010.

This entails an increasing demand for information, knowledge and participation that puts the need for planned communication activities at the centre of development initiatives. The paper provides a conceptual framework to participatory communication applied to climate change adaptation and food security.
