Land use and vegetation fires in Jambi Province, Sumatra, Indonesia
In Indonesia, vegetation fires occur every year in the dry season. To determine where and why fires occur, the natural and cultural landscape features that influence the location of fires were analysed. We investigated the probability of fire occurrence as a function of predisposing conditions and ignition sources, such as land use, land use zoning, accessibility or land cover, to understand the spatial determinants of fires. The study area is the entire province of Jambi, central Sumatra, Indonesia.
study of ocean zoning and sustainable management by GIS in Taiwan
To ensure the implementation of sustainable land development, strengthen ocean preservation, and conserve coastal resources, and encourage management of land use, the Construction and Planning Agency in Taiwan recently passed “The Draft of National Land Planning Act” and “The Draft of Coastal Act.” These acts effectively extend the utilization and management of land to territorial sea and coastal areas.
The impact of large-lot zoning and open space acquisition on home building in rural communities
Local governments in the United States use a wide range of tools to preserve rural landscapes. Some of these tools, like the purchase or transfer of development rights, are generally welcomed by farmers and other large landowners. Other tools, like increasing the minimum lot size in a town’s agricultural zone, are more controversial because they are believed to have negative effects on landowner wealth.
Integrated knowledge- and data-driven approaches for groundwater potential zoning using GIS and multi-criteria decision making techniques on hard-rock terrain of Ahar catchment, Rajasthan, India
This study utilizes for the first time integrated knowledge-driven and data-driven methods for groundwater potential zoning in the hard-rock terrain of Ahar River catchment, Rajasthan, India by employing remote sensing, geographical information system, multi-criteria decision making (MCDM), and multiple linear regression (MLR) techniques.
Measuring external costs of ruralâurban land conversion: An empirical study in Wuhan, China
Externalities of ruralâurban land conversion are major factors in the inefficiency of land resource allocation. Although many studies have proposed policy solutions of externalities, measuring externalities is still a challenge. According to definition of externalities, externalities of ruralâurban land conversion are the sum of nonmarket externalities and market externalities during land conversion process excluding owner of converted land.

Policy solutions in the U.S
The paper focuses on relocation, retreat, zoning, insurance, and subsidy as major dimensions of coastal hazard mitigation measures that have resurfaced as potent forces for combating coastal inundation and climate change. It reviews the issues surrounding the practice of these measures and discusses compatibilities of policies, engineering measures, and natural defense. Property rights, development interest, and distorted financial incentives pose as main barriers to coastal relocation and retreat policies in hazard-prone areas.
