This Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) has been updated for the Additional Financing (AF) of the Accelerating Impact of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project (P181150). This updated SEP will be used for the Parent Project (P173398) and the AF (P181150). It has been prepared to define information disclosure, establish stakeholder engagement measures, and provide a grievance mechanism (GM).

The Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project aims to enhance access to climate information services (CIS) and validated climate-smart agriculture (CSA) technologies in Africa, to help these countries strengthen the resilience of their agricultural sectors to the threat posed by climate change. Strengthening the capacity of next users, particularly agricultural extension and advisory service (EAS) providers who work to support farmers in Ghana and five other target countries, is crucial for achieving this goal.

Status of integrated crop-livestock research in the mixed farming systems of the Global South: a scoping study

Mixed farming systems (MFS) are the main food source and exist across almost all agroecological regions in the Global South. A systematic scoping review was conducted to identify the status of integrated crop-livestock research in MFS of the Global South. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses protocol was used to identify 210 studies (excluding reviews) addressing productivity, resilience, challenges, opportunities, and perceptions of integrating crops and livestock in the Global South from the Scopus and Web of Science database.

This Initiative addresses the Sustainable intensification (SI) of Mixed farming systems (MFS). By SI, we mean the production of more food on the same piece of land while reducing the negative environmental impact. MFS cover about 2.5 billion ha of land globally. In the developing world, MFS supply around 75% of milk, 60% of meat, and 41–86% of cereals consumed. These farming systems occur in nearly all agro-ecological zones, with an enormous variety of climatic and soil conditions and livelihood patterns. In SEast Asia the initiative is working in Bangladesh, Nepal and Laos.

Mate-choice for close kin is associated with improved offspring survival in Lodoicea maldivica, the largest-seeded plant in the world

We studied spatial patterns of kinship in the offspring of the endangered Lodoicea maldivica, a dioecious palm that produces the largest seed of any plant. Previous research has suggested that restricted seed and pollen dispersal in populations resulted in strong spatial genetic structure. We used microsatellites to genotype young plants and their potential parents at four sites across the species’ entire natural range.

On May 12 in Abuja, Nigeria, two CGIAR initiatives – Fragility, Conflict, and Migration (FCM) and National Policies and Strategies (NPS) – brought together policymakers, researchers, and representatives from the private sector and civil society to discuss how to advance food systems resilience amid crises while empowering women and youth, in the context of Nigeria. The workshop featured presentations from six other CGIAR research initiatives working in Nigeria and fostered lively discussions.
