This publication is a lobby material to advocate the passage of the National Land Use Act. It shows the adverse effects of the lack of land use planning in coastal communities especially in the advent of  a natural disaster. This publication features the Typhoon Haiyan-affected coastal communities in the Visayas Region of the Philippines as examples. It also recommends how this dismal situation could be lessened in the future.

En la 2-3 febrero 2015, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación organizó una reunión técnica Transcurrirá Pueblos Indígenas & respresentatives y personal de la FAO. La reunión contó con la presencia de más de veinte pueblos indígenas de las siete regiones socioculturales identificados por el Foro de las Naciones Unidas Permanente para las Cuestiones Indígenas (UNPFII), incluidos los miembros de los líderes del Foro Permanente, políticos, técnicos, productores de alimentos inidgenous y los tenedores del conocimiento tradicional .

The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 13 September 2007. Since then, the importance of the role that indigenous peoples play in economic, social and environmental conservation through traditional sustainable agricultural practices has been gradually recognized.

The paper examines a number of case studies including the construction of a local water supply system, the establishment of fish conservation zones and community-driven forest conservation.

This Act establishes the Register of Foreign Ownership of Water or Agricultural Land. It specifies the following: The first register is the Register of Foreign Ownership of Agricultural Land, which contains: a) information the Commissioner obtains about foreign persons’ holdings of agricultural land; and b) published statistics derived from that information. Foreign persons must give notice to the Commissioner of: a) their holdings of agricultural land as at the start of 1 July 2015; and b) later events causing agricultural land to start or cease to be held by foreign persons.

Ingonyama Trust Board on its 2014/15 Annual Report

The Ingonyama Trust Board (the Trust) presented its Annual Report for the 2014/2015 financial year. The Trust had committed R6 000 000 for the purchase of tractors to support production on communal land and noted that substantial sums of money were paid out for the benefit of 120 Learners. Employment, HR and vacancy figures were given. The Trust highlighted some performance statistics. In this year, the Board had approved 1 100 tenure rights, falling short of the target of 1 200.
