Recently, new community-level institutions have emerged in Zambézia province, Mozambique, through land rights registration. Numerous rural groups have delimited their acquired land rights and established community-level management systems. This paper assesses the rise of these ‘new’ institutions and whether they have replicated, replaced, or been added on to the existing pattern of state and nonstate institutions and processes.The new communities have registered large swathes of land, but have had had a limited impact on development processes.

Corresponding to the characteristics of multi-discipline and multi-level management, land administration always requires and acquires spatial data at very different spatial and thematic resolution. This particularity leads to many problems in spatial data acquisition and data management such as: inconsistency and difficulty in exchanging data between data sources and application disciplines. There are many researches in the direction of multi-resolutions to solve above questions.

This study evaluates the socioeconomic impacts of the 1997 Brazilian Program of Land Solidarity Reform on two rural communities in Ceará Brazil. To accomplish this, we contrasted job and income data collected from 1996, before the Programs inception, with similar data from 1998 and 1999. We also calculated a Human Development Index (Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano--HDI) and a Life Condition Index (Índice de Condição de Vida - ICV) for the two communities for the period between July 1998 and June 1999. Primary data were gathered by a survey applied to the sample communities.

Land markets have received a considerable amount of attention in economic literature. Since the treatment of the topic covers various approaches, areas, and questions, it seems desirable to attempt an overview of the results. This paper devises a way in which to present a complete picture of the land market by drawing together the various contributions. The first step is to establish a method by which a market in its entirety can be defined. It is suggested that the application of Oliver Williamson's "Four levels of social analysis" is an appropriate approach to be used in this endeavour.
