De Vereniging Innovatief Platteland (VIP) wil met innovaties en duurzame activiteiten werken aan een duurzame landbouw in het gebied rondom Venray. Werken aan biodiversiteit en duurzaam bodembeheer hoort daar nadrukkelijk bij. Door dit project is een aanzet gegeven in het gebied rondom Venray tot het verder implementeren en doorvertalen van wetenschappelijke kennis naar de praktijk. Er is in een nauwe interactie tussen wetenschap, adviseurs en andere intermediairen en ondernemers gewerkt aan duurzaam bodembeheer en beheersing van aaltjes en effecten van composten en groenbemesters.

Backed by sound economic policies and until the global crisis, a buoyant global economy, many developing countries made significant movement toward achieving the 2015millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly those for poverty reduction, gender parity in education, and reliable access to safe water. But even before the global economic crisis, progress in achieving some MDGs, especially those on child and maternal mortality, primary school completion, hunger, and sanitation, was lagging. The global food, fuel and economic crises have set back progress to the MDGs.

The Development Marketplace 2009 focused on adaptation to climate change. This paper identifies lessons from the Marketplace and assesses their implications for adaptation support. The findings are based on: statistical tabulation of all proposals; in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis of the 346 semi-finalists; and interviews with finalists and assessors. Proposals were fuelled by deep concerns that ongoing climate change and its impacts undermine development and exacerbate poverty, migration and food insecurity.

Il montre en outre que les conséquences de ces deux phénomènes ont des effets cumulatifs qui atteignent les personnes les plus pauvres parmi les pauvres dont la plupart vivent dans les zones rurales des pays en développement ?

A 'bottom up' regional Computable General Equilibrium Model (CGE) model for Vietnam is constructed for 28 commodities and 8 regions (using a GSO input-output table for 2005). The model is used to analyze the recent dramatic increases in the world price of rice on the regional economy of Vietnam, and the Vietnamese policy response to limit exports.

Ya no se trata solamente de la redistribución de la tierra, sino de potencializar la multifuncionalidad de los productores rurales incluyendo el control de la biodiversidad paran mejorar sus modos de vida. No obstante, las propuestas sobre seguridad alimentaria predominan en los países del Norte y las agencias multilaterales.

Poverty and Inequality Changes in Turkey (2003-2006)

Poverty in Turkey has declined significantly between 2003 and 2006, as a result of rapid poverty reduction in urban areas. In the same time period, the reduction in poverty in rural areas has been slow or non-existent. As a result, the relative risk of poverty has increased in this time period for those employed in agricultural sector, living in rural areas and in large households.

Inequality of Economic Opportunity in Turkey

Using information on asset ownership, housing quality, and access to services to construct an indicator of household wealth, the author estimates the share of inequality among prime-age Turkish women that can be attributed to unequal opportunities. Both parametric and non-parametric estimation methods are used, and robustness to some sample redefinitions is verified. The author find that at least one-third (one-fourth) of overall wealth (imputed consumption) inequality in Turkey is associated with morally irrelevant, pre-determined circumstances.
