A feasibility study has been worked out for an integrated advisory system for precision agriculture on the production of forage (grass and maize) for dairy farming in the Netherlands. Technology is not restrictive anymore to apply precision agriculture on important cultivation measures. Despite myriad challenges, Kenya has emerged in recent years as one of Africa’s frontier economies, with headline growth in the most recent decade propelling the country toward middle-income status. Less well understood is how risk dynamics associated with production, markets, and policy adversely impact sector performance, in terms of both influencing ex ante decision making among farmers, traders, and other sector stakeholders and causing ex post losses to crops, livestock, and incomes - destabilizing livelihoods and jeopardizing the country’s food security.

This work summarizes background papers prepared for the World Bank Group with significant input from government counterparts and other development partners. It takes stock of major recent developments and argues that a lot has been achieved in the last decade in terms of production of commodities for export and food consumption, with favorable impact on rural poverty reduction. It also argues that the two factors driving the recent agricultural performance, namely favorable international prices and expansion of the agricultural frontier, have reached their limits.

In urban areas, infrastructure projects to improve the living environment, such as construction of roads and parks, have been carried out by modifying and abolishing agricultural land. The majority of these projects are land readjustment projects, under which agricultural land is appropriated and replaced with reduced substitute land. The author took up the case of a land readjustment project and the cultivation of pears in Enokido, Yanokuchi, Inagi in order to investigate the effect of such projects, which aim to secure land for public use, on urban agriculture.

This Act establishes the Register of Foreign Ownership of Water or Agricultural Land. It specifies the following: The first register is the Register of Foreign Ownership of Agricultural Land, which contains: a) information the Commissioner obtains about foreign persons’ holdings of agricultural land; and b) published statistics derived from that information. Foreign persons must give notice to the Commissioner of: a) their holdings of agricultural land as at the start of 1 July 2015; and b) later events causing agricultural land to start or cease to be held by foreign persons.
