Despite growing attention around the climate security-migration nexus, the linkages between climate change, migration, and conflict and security risks have remained a matter of debate for research, policy, and practice. Attempts at gathering empirical evidence on this nexus, as well as global level policy instruments, have mainly focused on international contexts. At national and sub-national scales, interest and awareness around this nexus has yet to be reflected in the policy arena.

In this chapter, we explore the forces that have shaped the current challenge of securing land tenure for those with little voice, power, and means. Focusing on the Global South, we identify trends in the ebb and flow of land tenure security and insecurity, distinguishing between those tied to agricultural-based societies and forest-dependent populations where relevant.

Piloting participatory rangeland management (PRM) in Tanzania and Kenya was a 48-month EU-funded project. The project ran from December 2017 to December 2021. Its overarching goal was to improve the livelihood and nutrition status of pastoralist communities in East Africa by improving rangeland management to secure and better use rangelands and expand the role of women in selected pastoral communities in Kenya and Tanzania.

2021 was WLE’s final year – the culmination of a decade of science and impact. Throughout the year we saw the real-world difference made by our flagship projects and watched solutions unfold at landscape and basin scales. We also saw our research flow into larger processes in a year of international action that included the UN Food Systems Summit and high-stakes meetings of the UN Conventions on Climate Change and Biological Diversity.

Gold mining in Peru has caused the loss of more than 96,000 hectares of primary forest in the last 30 years. In February 2019, the Peruvian government started an unprecedented mega-operation aimed at eradicating illegal gold mining in La Pampa by using a near real-time information system called RAMI (Radar Mining Monitoring) to detect gold mining and related deforestation in the Amazonian region faster and all year long. This is enabling them to target interventions to stop illegal practices.

The report describes the stakeholder engagement workshop convened to introduce the AqF Initiative (in particular the AquaPlans work package) to the traditional leaders, community representatives and stakeholders working within the Kafue flats. Participants were drawn from Royal Highnesses from seven chiefdoms of the Kafue flats, Community resource Board representatives, development agencies, extension officers from government line ministries, NGOs and the academia.

This course includes self-paced e-learning training modules which present descriptive and practical step-by-step guidance on how to compute SDG 11+ indicators. It is aimed at strengthening national and city capacities in collecting, analyzing, and monitoring the urban SDG indicators.

This training course is intended for all the professionals involved in monitoring and reporting on SDG 11 indicators and anyone who wishes to get guidance in the monitoring process.

This working paper summarises our understanding of a framework to support the scaling of participatory development in low-income urban neighbourhoods in the global South. The discussion addresses constraints that have previously been identified both in the academic literature and through social movements and support agencies seeking citizen inclusion. Our study demonstrates the importance of working with all key stakeholders, including organised communities, urban social movements, academics, professionals and City authorities.
