The overall objective of the proposed research is to develop an empirically applicable methodology for capturing and evaluating the critical linkages between the relative success of transformative adaptation options and their relative effectiveness as determined by the underlying institutions and infrastructures at various scales and contexts.

Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) is a project being implemented in Africa to help deliver a climate-smart African future, driven by science and innovation in agriculture. It is led by the Alliance of Bioversity and Centre for International Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and supported by a grant from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank.

Presentation about the using suitability index based on growth characteristics to evaluate the performance of various shrubs as potential hedgerow species for alley cropping systems under west Asia conditions. Seven shrubs' species were evaluated in this study including three leguminous forage species (Medicago arborea, Colutea istria and Coronilla glauca), three Atriplex species (A. canescens, A. nummularia, A. undulata) and spineless cactus pear (Opuntia ficusindica) intercropped between annual crops of wheat, vetch and barley at the Mushaqqar Research Station in Jordan.

Population growth, rapid urbanization, and dietary changes are placing tremendous pressure on food systems, particularly in developing countries. Based on current income, population and consumption trends, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) estimates that, by 2050, some 50 percent more food will be needed to satisfy the extra demand compared to 2013 (Alexandratos and Bruinsma, 2012). The challenges posed by rapid growth in food demand are intensified by the effects of climate change on agricultural systems, including crops, livestock, forestry and fisheries.

Most of the smallholder farmers in Mali are confronted with multifaceted challenges, which include low productivity, post-harvest crop losses, underdeveloped markets, vulnerability to climate change, and gender inequality affecting the distribution of resources. These problems require interventions such as institutional reforms that facilitate efficient rural service delivery, development of markets, creation of physical infrastructure, and supportive government policies while ensuring a stable and conducive political environment.

Traditional pastoralism is a unique and resilient system for ensuring adaptation to climate change. This adaptation is particularly important to deal with a dynamic process of unpredictable climate variability and permanent human interactions in dryland ecosystems in Africa. It is considered of fundamental importance to ensure the application of innovative techniques and mechanisms to deal with these changes, and that these technologies are strategically integrated into community social structures and resource management value systems.

This is a report on a packaging exercise for the Tanzania land use planning innovation. It covers the evaluation process for Tanzania's readiness and use of innovative land use planning. The reports include identifying and selecting key solutions and activities necessary to scale the innovation and key actions needed to enhance the readiness and use of these key activities.

The African “youth” population is growing at a fast and steady pace, attracting attention from scholars, policymakers, and politicians. Yet, we know relatively little about this large and heterogeneous segment of the population. This paper presents data from 110 interviews and ten focus groups with youth engaged in commercial agriculture across all four regions of Uganda. Capitalising on this ethnographic data, we provide an analytical framework for studying complexity among the heterogeneous social category of youth agripreneurs.

This paper develops a new framework to measure and track women’s empowerment in governance of countries’ agrifood systems. All too often, women’s needs, priorities, and voices are missing from the policy process, even when women may be disproportionately affected by shocks or have distinct policy preferences. The Women’s Empowerment in Agrifood Systems Governance (WEAGov) is an assessment framework to help countries and stakeholders measure the extent of inclusion and leadership of women in agrifood systems governance and to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
