Social forestry programs, aimed to reduce poverty in forest communities while maintaining the forest function, are increasingly incorporating gender issues and responsiveness. By design, social forestry program is supposed to promote justice and equality for forest users, but on the ground discriminatory practices against women are occurring. Drawing case study from two Indonesian villages, this study examined the extent of discrimination against women in the implementation of the state social forestry programs.

Land policies are formulated with the goal of addressing land use management challenges. Therefore, a thorough investigation is required to assess effectiveness of land policy processes. The unknown land use policy effec[1]tiveness is how and where the formulation and identification of land use problems affect the throughput of policy implementation. The main objective of this paper is to assess the effectiveness of land policy processes using models of public policy analysis.

The RGIL project is part of the Global Programme Responsible Land Policy (GPRLP) and is implemented in Ethiopia, Laos and Uganda. RGIL aims to ensure that investments in land are productive, contribute to sustainable land management and respect the rights and needs of local populations, in particular vulnerable groups and women. The project is funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

La présente étude constitue une synthèse des données qualitatives et quantitatives des impacts de l’accord de partenariat volontaire (APV) UE-FLEGT dans sept pays : le Cameroun, le Ghana, l’Indonésie, la République du Congo, la Côte d’Ivoire, le Guyana et le Honduras. Ces pays se situent à différents stades du processus APV, entre négociation, mise en oeuvre et obtention des licences FLEGT (Application des réglementations forestières, gouvernance et échanges commerciaux).

This working paper summarises our understanding of a framework to support the scaling of participatory development in low-income urban neighbourhoods in the global South. The discussion addresses constraints that have previously been identified both in the academic literature and through social movements and support agencies seeking citizen inclusion. Our study demonstrates the importance of working with all key stakeholders, including organised communities, urban social movements, academics, professionals and City authorities.

Outlines how governments and civil society may promote participatory law-making;details the positive impacts of such processes;and makes various recommendations to ensure that all citizensvoices are heard during law-making processes.

"Participatory law-making” is the process by which citizens actively contribute to policy advocacy and law-drafting. Citizen participation in law-making can improve the quality and legitimacy of policies and laws by ensuring that they reflect and protect the authentic interests of the national citizenry. In the field of land rights, participatory law-making can help ensure the recognition and protection of legitimate tenure rights.

Face aux enjeux liés à la gouvernance foncière, plusieurs initiatives de cartographie participative ont été menées, au Bénin et ailleurs en Afrique. Une initiative de ce type est d’autant plus indispensable au Bénin, sachant que les limites des villages n’ont pas encore de reconnaissance administrative. Comment tirer des enseignements de ces expériences, pour alimenter la méthodologie de réalisation des cartes participatives ? Une méthode de cartographie participative peut-elle être institutionnalisée ?
