Land degradation neutrality (LDN) has been defined by the Parties to the Convention as: A state whereby the amount and quality of land resources, necessary to support ecosystem functions and services and enhance food security, remains stable or increases within specified temporal and spatial scales and ecosystems. The present report is an overview of the status of land degradation neutrality (LDN) in the region including a national overview for the 17 programme countries.

This assessment study on land policy in Africa was initiated by the Civil Society (CSO) Platform, and supported by UN-Habitat, Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), International Land Coalition (ILC) and Welthungerhilfe (WHH). It sets out to learn lessons from the implementation process of AU Agenda on land and stimulate discussion on the way forward to further improve land rights and land governance in Africa as a basis for equitable progress and prosperity.

– l’allocation, la privation et/ou la redistribution des droits ;
– les supports juridiques pour la reconnaissance légale de ces droits (on parle aussi d’enregistrement ou de formalisation des droits) ;
– les dispositifs administratifs et les modalités de gouvernance nécessaires à sa mise en œuvre.

El análisis se realiza a través del estudio de las principales normas jurídicas de distinto rango emitidas por el Estado, buscando determinar fines y objetivos e intereses de los diferentes sectores de la sociedad de cada época. Adicionalmente se evalúan los efectos e impacto de esas políticas en la realidad agraria y rural del país.

Social media have opened interesting avenues for accessing active citizenry’s perceptions, providing an important tool for the promotion of the successful implementation of policy. Although social media data have been used to access citizens’ perceptions in various fields of study, they have yet to be adequately examined in the area of land-related policies. This study showcases the potential of the use of social media data to access citizens’ perceptions of land-related policies in the context of a developing country.

Land degradation neutrality (LDN) is increasingly recognized as an effective mechanism to address land degradation and sustain ecosystems. Although this mechanism could accelerate the achievement of SDGs, we should approach with caution many of the policy measures proposed within countries’ LDN target-setting programmes to avoid violating rights to land and resources.
