Law No. 4459-Ic "On institution of Jawaheti protected areas and management thereof".

This Law regulates legal relations in the sphere of institution of Jawaheti protected areas and management, protection and conservation thereof. It shall regulate the issues of disposal, management and utilization of land, water and other natural resources of Jawaheti protected areas. Jawaheti protected areas shall include: (a) Jawaheti national park; (b) biosphere reserve "Kartsah wetland"; (c) biosphere reserve "Suld wetland"; (d) biosphere reserve "Khanchaly lake"; (e) biosphere reserve "Bugdasheni lake"; (f) biosphere reserve "Madatali lake"; and (g) auxiliary territory of multiple utilization Jawaheti. Basic tasks of institution of Jawaheti protected areas shall be as follows: (a) protection, reproduction and conservation of biological diversity, natural ecosystems and landscapes, animal and plant species typical for Southern Georgia; (b) protection and rehabilitation of wetlands serving as natural habitat for waterfowl; (c) creation of favorable conditions for ecological education and research, monitoring and protection of cultural heritage; and (d) forming conditions for recreational activity.
