In India the vegetable supply chain has traditionally been fragmented since the majority of growers are smallholders with limited exposure to improved agricultural practices. This study analyzed behavior of 556 vegetable growers in 6 districts of Uttar Pradesh, India, concerning adoption of innovative agricultural practices: crop rotation, green manuring, crop diversification, sorting and grading of produce, and market and price analysis from crop establishment through postharvest and marketing. Most respondents were smallholders.
Forest discourses and the role of planning-related perspectives: the case of Sweden
Forest use in Sweden may be seen as constituting an essentially conflicted area, in which a number of actors position themselves. Based on a review of policy documents, this study reviews discourses on forest amongst major organisational actors between 2001 and 2011, with the aim of discussing the ways in which discourse may have changed following increasing criticism of the previously dominating production paradigm during the period. The study also discusses the ways in which forest discourses at present may also exclude areas that are relevant to forest planning.
impact of human pressure on landscape patterns and plant species richness in Mediterranean coastal dunes
We analyze the spatial patterns of natural dune cover patches and their plant richness, comparing coastal sites with different levels of human pressure in central Italy. We created a detailed land cover map of dune sites. The spatial pattern of natural dune cover types was characterized by computing a set of patch-based metrics. To quantify patch plant richness, we used 16 m ² vegetation plots, randomly distributed on coastal dune cover types. For each patch, the richness of the entire pool of species and of three guilds (i.e., typical dune, ruderal, and alien species) was considered.
Fusion of polarimetric and texture information for urban building extraction from fully polarimetric SAR imagery
Building extraction from remote sensing images is very important in many fields, such as urban planning, land use investigation, damage assessment, and so on. In polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) imagery, the buildings not only have typical polarimetric features but also have rich texture features. In this paper, the texture information is introduced to improve the accuracy of urban building extraction from PolSAR imagery by a new method called cross reclassification .

Accurate representation of actual terrestrial surface types at regional to global scales is an important element for many applications.
