Bermuda was first settled in 1609 by shipwrecked English colonists heading for Virginia. Self-governing since 1620, Bermuda is the oldest and most populous of the British overseas territories. Vacationing to the island to escape North American winters first developed in Victorian times. Tourism continues to be important to the island's economy, although international business has overtaken it in recent years. Bermuda has also developed into a highly successful offshore financial center. A referendum on independence from the UK was soundly defeated in 1995.
Bermuda is a parliamentary democracy and a self-governing overseas territory of the UK.

These Regulations set out, in the Schedule, the land-holding charges payable under section 96(2) of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956. These charges are imposed on land holding by aliens. The Order also provides for refund of charges.

Bermuda Immigration and Protection (Territorial Restrictions) Regulations 2007 (BR 58 of 2007).
These Regulations prescribe rules for determining areas of land to be included in calculating the total area of licensed land and application land for the purposes of section 89 of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956.
Land Valuation and Tax Act 1967.
This Act provides rules for the valuation of land for purposes of taxation and for the assessment and collection of a tax payable in respect of any valuation unit. In addition, the Act establishes the Land Valuation Appeal Tribunal and provides for appeal against decisions regarding valuation and taxation. The Tribunal shall consider the objections to the draft valuation list prepared by the Director of Land Valuation.
Base Lands Development Amendment Act 2006 (No. 21 of 2006).
This Act amends the Base Lands Development Act 1996 in section 9 by redefining subsection (3) on lease of scheduled land by the Company and other subsections regarding approval and consent for such letting of land.

Administration of Estates Act 1974.
This Act regulates the (grant of) administration of real and personal estates of deceased persons. The Act consists of 51 sections divided into 5 Parts.An application for the grant or revocation of probate or administration shall be made through the Registrar in the prescribed form. No grant shall be made by the Registrar until a contention is disposed of, or it appears to the Registrar that a grant ought not to be made without the direction of the Court.
